Why after almost 8 hours over 3 days could no one help produce P&L summary report for different accounts like we used to be able to do with QBD? Not even print it.

Although the interface differs, the Profit and Loss report in QuickBooks Online offers customization similar to what’s in QuickBooks Desktop. You can filter the report to show only the specific accounts you need by following these steps:
 

1. Go to Reports and select Profit and Loss.
2. Click the Customize button in the upper-right corner.
   
    
3. In the Filters section, select Distribution Account in the first box, and select the specific accounts you want to include.
   
   

Once the report is generated, you can easily print it by clicking the Print icon located next to the Email and Export icons.

I tried it. It appears that there is no way to filter a P&L report by the transaction account (the source account) the way you easily can in QuickBooks Desktop - since sometime in the last century.

QuickBooks Online is weaker than QuickBooks Desktop in most ways. The reporting feature has huge disparities.  

For ex QuickBooks Desktop users, when using QuickBooks Online it's best to set your expectations as low as you can imagine, and then lower them some more. Then you might be happy with the product.
