Why aren't the contractor payments I made this month showing up in the files to be downloaded? This has never happened before.

Taxes and employee payments are showing up on the download page, but the contractor payments aren't. Any ideas?

Why aren't the contractor payments I made this month showing up in the files to be downloaded? This has never happened before.

Ever since switching over I believe last July to QB from the previous format, I've had challenges maneuvering the new system. It took a while to figure out where to download .iif files of the payments I made. Finally I figured out I had to click the little wheel in the top right corner of the home page (https://app.qbo.intuit.com/app/payroll) and then click on "Payroll settings." The second item on the page that loads is "Export." Until this month, when I clicked there, all my payments to employees, contractors, and taxes showed up and were easy to download all at once. Now, only the employee payments are showing up. Do you know how I can download the contractor and tax payments? Thanks for your help.

Hello there, @fredburks.  Thanks for getting back to us.

I can see how important to download the contractor and tax payments directly in QuickBooks Online. If you haven't tried following these steps, you can do so your tax payment will be downloaded. Here's how:

To export individual tax payments:

  1. Select Payroll tax on the left hand menu
  2. Select the report Tax payment history under Tax resources
  3. Choose the date filter for the tax payments you want to export
  4. Put a check mark in the box for one or more payments to export
  5. Select Export to Accounting.

In case, you want to export contractor payments, they are only exported when selecting Export transactions in the Payroll Settings window.

Also, I have another way that you might consider. To get or download the data you need, we can look for a third-party application that can be integrated with QuickBooks. Just go to the  Apps menu and click the Find Apps section to find one.

You can also utilize our link. From there, you can review more applications supported by QuickBooks.

  1. Go to this link: QuickBooks App Store.
  2. Use the Find the right apps for your business field to find an app.
  3. View the Overview, Reviews, and FAQs
  4. When ready to have this app, click the Get app now button.

I've got some articles about preparing and filing 1099s in QuickBooks Online (QBO):

What I want to know is why it had been working fine until last month and now it's not working. Take good care.

Your issue ends here, @fredburks.

One of the possible reasons why the contractor's payments aren't showing on the files is that the browser had data issues. There are times that the browser store frequently accessed data, thus causing QuickBooks to act weirdly. To verify, let's log in to your QuickBooks Online (QBO) account using a private browser. To do so, press this shortcut key on your keyboard:

  • Google Chrome: Ctrl Shift N
  • Mozilla Firefox: Ctrl Shift P
  • Safari: Command Option P

Once logged in, go back and download the file from the Payroll Settings again. If this works, it means that you need to clear the browser's cache so the system can start fresh. If you get the same result while using a private browser, I recommend switching to a different one.

You might also want to read this article: Withhold taxes from contractor payments. This will help you know when and how you might need to set aside federal withholding for contractors.

Should you need any assistance downloading your contractor's payments, I'm available here to help any time, @fredburks

Thanks for the suggestion, Mark. I just did as you recommended and still neither the contractor payments nor our payments to the IRS are showing available for download. Strange. I welcome any further ideas. The only thing we've done differently is we hired someone in the Netherlands as an employee, but I don't think that would cause this problem. Take care.

Hi fredburks,

I appreciate you for trying the steps shared by my colleague.

Since the same thing happens, I'd recommend reaching out to our Phone Support team. An agent can take a look at your account and verify why the payments made to the IRS are not showing in QuickBooks.

You can reach out to them through the ? Help icon.

I'll be around whenever help is needed about tax payments. Keep safe!

Just to be clear, both the contractor payments and the IRS and state tax payments are showing on the website and showing as paid. The problem is I can't download them. The download page has changed its appearance in the last month. I wonder if there is a glitch that needs to be worked out. Thanks for your help.
