Delete sales tax rates and agencies

Currently, there is no way to delete a tax rate or a tax agency in QuickBooks Online. If you no longer need or use them, you can deactivate the tax rate or rename the tax agency.

Note:If you don't see the settings below, you may be using Auto Sales Tax feature. See Set up and use Automated Sales Tax for more information.

Deactivate a tax rate

Important: You CANNOT reactivate a tax rate. If you need it for future use, you’ll have to create a new one.

  1. Go to All apps A bunch of numbers and letters on a tile wall., then Sales Tax, then Overview (Take me there).
  2. In the Sales Tax Center, go to the Related Tasks section and select Add/edit tax rates and agencies.
  3. Select a tax rate name, then select Deactivate.
  4. Select Continue on the dialog box.

Rename a tax agency

  1. Go to All apps A bunch of numbers and letters on a tile wall., then Sales Tax, then Overview (Take me there).
  2. In the Sales Tax Center, go to the Agency Name table.
  3. Select Rename for the agency name you want to edit.
  4. Make the changes you want and select Save.
