Business Playbook

Good afternoon, Community! The most recent show I've been binge watching is "All American" on Netflix. If you didn't notice from the name, it's about a star high school football player. The players are constantly studying their playbooks and that gave me the thought that businesses need playbooks too! Here are a few things that it can consist of.

Introduction
To start your business playbook, you'll want to include an intro. In the intro you may include a message from the company, the company vision and mission statements, values and goals.

Code of Conduct
A business playbook will typically be read by new hires. New members of the team will want to know what's expected of them in the workplace. A code of conduct will outline just that, like business hours and overtime, breaks, lunch periods, and sick days and vacation time. This conduct section can go even further to explain how employees should dress for work. This is also a good place to include human resources information.

Policies and Procedures
"Policies" in general is an umbrella for more specific parts that make up a business. Some of those include:

  • How to handle conflict
  • Severe weather
  • Drugs and alcohol
  • Emergency procedure
  • Telecommuting policy
  • Conflicts of Interest
  • Security

Each of these points allows plenty of room for full customization for your business. When the team is fully aware of the plays, they work better together. What would you add to a business playbook? The comments are always open!
