Reflecting on 2017: A Good Year -- or Good Riddance?

So much happens during the course of a year. Priorities shift, goals change, business models get refined. When you think about the past 12 months working for yourself, did your expectations stack up to reality? Tell us:

Did you meet your stated goals for business in 2017?

If not, what will you differently in 2018?

We can’t wait to hear how you did -- and what you plan to do!

Reflecting on 2017: A Good Year -- or Good Riddance?

I'll be glad to see the back of it for a lot of reasons. We had a confluence of staff leaving, bereavements and family illness and it's been hard to keep my eye anywhere near the ball with the business.

On the bright side I realised since getting QB that my accountants of the last ten years barely have a clue about my business or how it works. So they are on thin ice while I take back control of the numbers with the help of QB.

This is my first few weeks of using QB by the way.  25 years ago when I started my business the books were all on paper, and we grew and got busy so fast that I fell into that area of mockery for accountants, the chap who dumps a box of papers on them and says "make it so".

So I suppose 2017 was good in one way: a reality check and some long overdue lessons learned.

Welcome,  @Anonymous! I'm glad to hear you're looking toward 2018 with an idea about how QuickBooks is going to help you stay on track with where you want your business to go. Good on you and we're backing you here in the QB Community!

It was a good year for us. We didn't meet the revenue goal that we wanted, but going to try in 2018. :)

It's great to go into the new year with a good goal, @jessbru99568 :-)

Reflecting on 2017: A Good Year -- or Good Riddance?

2017 was a banner year.

All my business interests have met or exceeded expectations, and our stated goal of putting our competition out of business has happened, we are the only shop of our kind for 50 miles or so.

And I just got a call from a group of investors about selling that same shop - also part of our goal, time will tell.

On a family note, this is the first year in a decade or so all the kids will be here for Christmas. In October my daughter was promoted to campus president for the Las Cruses campus of the college she works for.  And in December, a week ago actually, she earned her Ph. D. - there is a doctor in the house!
