Sparking Stimulating Conversations

Hello, ladies and gentlemen of the Community! Thanks for joining me here in the Business Discussion space. I came across an article on inc.com earlier today that mentioned several great questions to ask to stimulate conversations. As a business owner, I'm sure you're well aware of how important relationship and network building can be.

So without further ado, here's the list of conversation sparking questions...

  1. What's your story? Completely open-ended and allows the individual to start their story wherever they feel necessary.
  2. What absolutely excites you right now? I'm sure you're bound to see some eyes light up when asking this question.
  3. What was the highlight of your day (or week)? Answers to this question may warrant a laugh or two. (My personal answer is my two year old son singing a made up song about monster trucks.)
  4. What gets you up in the morning? They could potentially reply with "my alarm clock," but hopefully their response will be a bit more in depth.
  5. What is your whole reason for existing--your "why"? Ahh, the age old question.
  6. What's the most important thing I should know about you? This question can certainly be covered by a blanket of topics. You may get a business related response, maybe not.
  7. Why did you choose your career or line of business? The light bulb moment, when they thought, "Yes! This is what I want to do."
  8. What is one of your most defining moments in life? I'd love to hear this answer from a lot of different people.
  9. What's the best thing that's happened to you this year? Oh, this is a good one. We could all use some positive reflection and to hear something good.
  10. When's the last time you failed spectacularly at something? Failed spectacularly. I like that. Hey, if you do fail, at least it means you're trying, right?
There you have it. A few great questions to find out more about fellow business owners, potential partners, and colleagues. Lets see some of your answers to these questions! Or maybe you have some thought provoking queries to add to the list. Either way, we'd love to hear from you. Have a great weekend everyone!
