Summer Business Launch

Hey, Community and happy Friday! June is here and it's almost officially summer. With that, you may be looking to start a summer side hustle or maybe even a full time business. I found an article on inc.com that outlines some great tips for your warm weather endeavor.

Set a price to win customers
One summer, many years ago, my friend and I sat up a lemonade stand in my front yard and charged 25 cents per cup. I think we made around $40 and thought we had struck gold. That is quite a bit of lemonade though. The point is you couldn't beat the price. Beyond a lemonade stand, you're guaranteed to make more sales, more often, with a price that can't be passed up. The young entrepreneur mentioned in the article started a dog-walking business and offers half off for first time customers so they can try the service at a cheaper price. This is an excellent method to bring customers in, then impress them with your work so they'll keep coming back.

Start marketing early
Speaking on personal experience again, I can't tell you how many times I've at least tried a product or service from a new business just based on a friend or family member recommendation. One way to get your summer business up and running is to start spreading the word very early on. Summer is a super busy season so market your plan from the get go to avoid your potential customers missing out.

Keep some money reserve
This point speaks for itself. When your own funds are at stake, keep some extra money on hand just in case.

Grow your network beyond family
Your family is sure to support your business venture but they can only buy so much. While a summer business could potentially have a slow start, you can't be afraid to reach out for assistance [beyond your family] and expand your customer base.

Summer business projects are an exciting fresh start, but I think these tips are beneficial to start-ups all year round. What do you think? What are some tips you have for people starting a new business? We'd love to hear your thoughts!
