Tips for Gaining Customer Traction

Hello QuickBooks Community! It's Friday! One of the best days of the week, don't you agree? Anyway, I have a fun fact for you. Did you know Wal-Mart averages a profit of 1.8 million dollars every hour? That's kind of mind-blowing when you think about it. Today, I wanted to stop by and share this article by USchambers about gaining customer traction. They highlight a few ways to do this, so let's find out.

Listening to Customer Wants and Needs
When you can identify your target market, you don't just stop at that. Businesses need to also listen to their customer. Listening to their needs, wants, what motivates them, or their challenges, your responsibility as a firm is to provide a solution through your product or service to suit their needs. Oil Garner, Co-founder of Unbounce, stated that "the customer isn't always. But if you don't listen to them, your product won't be either."

Building Trust
How do you build trust with someone? Let me guess; it takes some time, the same thing with selling your product. It would help if you let customers believe in your brand. Steps to do this involve being authentic, showing how your product can be beneficial, and through referrals. Taking time to do this will contribute to building traction.

Gaining Exposure and Spreading the Word
We are fortunate enough to be in a period where information is easy to share with just the click of a button. Thus, it is easier to share knowledge, market, or advertise your products, especially on social media platforms, so that potential customers can be aware. Megan Pierson rightfully said that "No matter how innovative your product is, customers can't buy it unless they know about it." When it comes to spreading the word, the authors suggested going where your customers are. Find out where customer likes to shop and try to get your product or service in front of them. Another way they suggest is getting feedback from existing customers, analyzing your findings, and make changes to accommodate customer preferences. Bill Gates said it best, "We all need people who will give us feedback. That's how we improve."

Focus on Customer Retention and Referrals
Word of mouth marketing can be a big plus, and it can also be detrimental to your business. I can a test to this, and maybe you have experienced this. Let's say your in a store examing a product that you're interested in getting, and a stranger walks up to you and shares their experience about using that product. It isn't necessarily a good review. Doesn't it make you think about it twice to purchase the item? As Pierson says, "a happy customer is the best source of advertising."
