What to do if you see duplicate clients in ProConnect Tax Online

Learn what to do with duplicate client files after exporting data from Prep for Taxes.

Prep for taxes for QuickBooks Online Accountant is a year-end tool that lets you review and export your client’s accounting data. After your review, QuickBooks exports everything on tax forms and starts a new tax return in ProConnect Tax Online.

If you notice duplicate client profiles in ProConnect, don’t worry. Use the Merge Duplicate Client Tool to merge them into one.

Merge duplicate client profiles

Client profiles are shared between QuickBooks Online Accountant and ProConnect Tax Online.

If you already started a tax return for your client in ProConnect, be careful. When you export their accounting data with Prep for Taxes, don't select the Create new return option. This may create a duplicate client profile.
