Schedule C: Taxes and licenses

Some tax and license fees are deductible as part of your self-employed work.

Heads up: Tax-wise, your QuickBooks Self-Employed subscription, including our Tax Bundle version, falls into this category. We automatically put your subscription expenses into this category when we detect them in your transactions.

We automatically categorize these transactions for you as taxes and licenses:

  • Business licenses
  • Property tax
  • Estimated taxes
  • Federal tax
  • Sales tax
  • State tax
  • Other taxes

You can also enter these as taxes and licenses:

  • DBA/Fictitious Business Name one-time filing fee
  • Incorporation fees
  • Business name search fees
  • Copyright application and registration
  • Trademarks and logo fees
  • Domain name search fees
  • Software licensing and renewal fees
  • Real estate taxes for an office you own (not your home office)
  • Any other taxes imposed by city, state, county in order for you to conduct business
  • Fee to acquire, draft, or cancel a lease
Note: If you're unsure on how to categorize your transactions, please consult your Accountant or go to IRS Self-Employed Individuals Tax Center.
