1) 1099 Mail and Print to Contractors? 2) View and Print 1099 WITHOUT creating an Intuit account

Will QuickBooks (Intuit) mail forms 1099 out to my contractors? My contractors have received an email stating that they must to set up an Intuit account to view, download or print their forms. Also, the email sent to the contractors does not mention that a physical form will be mailed to them. Therefore, many of them don't want to sign up, thus I end up taking longer to download, print and mail it to each of them. So my questions to you are 1) Is there a way to modify the email my contractors receive so they know that they will receive a copy of the 1099 form in the mail. 2) Can my contractors view their 1099 form WITHOUT creating a free Intuit account? Please advise, and thanks.

Thank you for getting back to us and clarifying your concern, @elma1.

Allow me to provide additional information about filing 1099 in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

QuickBooks will mail a printed 1099 copy to your contracts once you e-filed it within the system. However, if you choose not to e-file with Intuit, your contractors won't receive a copy. You'll want to print out 1099 copies so you can send them to your contractors.

On the other hand, your contractors need to create a 1099 E-file service account to access their 1099 form online. If they don't want to create an account, you'll also need to send them a copy of their 1099.

Hello, elma1.

Thank you for reaching out to the Community. To answer your first question, you need to update the information through the Expense page to modify the email of your contractor. And, I'm glad to show you how:

  1. Go to Expenses from the left menu, then choose Vendors.
  2. Locate the contractor from there and open the profile.
  3. Select Edit
  4. Edit the new email address.
  5. Select Save and close.
  6. Once done, refresh QuickBooks for changes to take effect.

For your second question, If you want contractors to add their tax information and view their 1099, you need to invite them to QuickBooks Online and create an account.

You can see more about e-filing in E-file 1099s your way. This article will include a guide for 1099-NEC, covers how to fill out a 1099, and Tips to avoid mistakes.

Thanks for your time, but unfortunately these do not answer my questions. My first question basically is,  I want to know whether Intuit will mail out a copy of the 1099s to contractors or not? Right now, the email my contractors received shows as the copy would be "only" via email and not via mail (hard copy).   My second question is, Can my contractors view, download, and print their 1099 form "WITHOUT" creating the free intuit account?  They just don't want to create an Intuit account just to get access to their 1099 form.  It should be as easy access as they would get it in the USPS. Thank you for your help.

Thank you, Mark. You did respond my questions. Yes, I did e-file. Just that I don't know why Intuit makes contractors create an account so they can view, download and print their 1099s. Thank you again.
