ADP payroll for 3 months, handwritten checks for the rest of the year.

Hello,

We used ADP for payroll from January to March of 2019. For the rest of the year, checks were handwritten to employees net of taxes. I assume I would have to do the following? Please correct me if I’m wrong:

1. Create a payroll liability (including employer taxes) of the taxes withheld and pay them to the IRS

2. Would I have to file any of these forms? 940/941/944. I assume ADP would file those for me for Jan-March? Confused about the rest of the year

3. Issue W-2’s to employees for the rest of the year for checks handwritten

Help is much appreciated! Thank you

Yes, you're correct, n1njah.

After you created the checks, you'll have to make an expense and payroll liability check. Afterwards, manually submit the 941, 940, and 944 forms for April to December 2019 to the IRS. Then, issue your employee's W-2s for the entire year.

However, if you're already using QuickBooks Payroll, you'll have to manually enter the checks, and W-2s for the entire year. Here's are articles that helps you do this:

Afterwards, you're good to file the form to the IRS.

I'll be here if you still need help. Thank you!

Hey Adrian, thanks for the response as well as the links.

Just have one more question - Wouldn't ADP submit the W-2's already for Jan-March? So I could just issue them from April to December?

Thank you.

Hello there, n1njah.

You'll need to manually enter the checks in QuickBooks Desktop from January to March so you can retrieve the employees W-2 as one. Once you have entered them, you can now pull up your W-2's

You're always welcome here. Keep us posted if there's anything else that you need help with.
