Automated Sales tax

We have been using QB for years.  Just recently, our bookkeeper turned on the automated sales tax feature.  Now we are no longer able to import invoices which is one of the main reasons we use quickbooks.  How can I switch back to the manual sales tax option?  I've seen posts about it but the switch back option doesn't show on my taxes screen.  I have also already spent an hour on the phone with support.

It's absurd that this feature can't be turned off, especially when it was JUST turned on.  Or, how can I at least make it so I can import invoices that don't have sales tax on them?

Thanks for posting in the Community, @Kelley10.

In QuickBooks Online (QBO), the option to import invoices after turning on the Automated Sales Tax feature is currently unavailable. Also, the ability to turn it off is also unavailable.

I can see how this option would be helpful for you, and I'll take note of this. Our Product Engineers are always looking for ideas to consider on how to improve QuickBooks.

Automated Sales tax

Thank you for your reply.  I need to find a way to import invoices.  Can my QB company file be restored to March 11 which is the day before the automated sales tax was turned on?  I'm willing to reenter all the work that has been done since then in order to go back to manual sales tax.  I won't be able to use QB if I'm not able to get the import feature to work.  There aren't enough hours in a day to enter all of our restaurant food tickets manually once we open in May.

I also read something about creating a new file.  I am willing to try that as well if it can be done without automated sales tax so I can use the import feature.

Thanks for getting back on this thread, Kelley10.

There isn't a way to switch back to the manual sales tax and restore your file once the automated is turned on. I'd recommend reaching out to our QuickBooks Support Team if there are other options available.

Here's how:

  1. Click the Help (?) icon at the top.
  2. On the Assistant tab, click Talk to a human.
  3. Enter your issue or question on the Type something field, then click the send icon.
  4. Choose I still need a human.
  5. Select Get help from a human.
  6. You can either select the Chat with us or Have us call you option.

To ensure that you'll be assisted on time, please see our support hours.

Additionally, you can assign tax categories to anything you sell. This lets QuickBooks know how much tax you need to charge based on what exactly you're selling.

Please let me know if you need more help in managing your sales transactions with sales tax. I'd be glad to help you again.
