Contact Name above Company Name on 1099's.

This is my first year filing 1099's with QB online. We filed and now are getting complaints from vendors as the company's Contact Name is listed above Company Name on the 1099's. The EIN's match the company name, but they want the contact name off of the 1099. This is going to cause a mismatch with IRS records. Do I need to refile then? Am I going to be penalized by the IRS? I filed on Jan 12. Help!

Before anything else, know we recognize the urgency of this matter and want to ensure we're providing the information you need. You'll want to contact the IRS to confirm if you'll be penalized for a 1099 with the contact's name listed above the company name. If they require you to process a corrected 1099, know you can submit the amended form through QBO. However, we're still finalizing the instructions. For more details, please see this page: Correct or change 1099s in QuickBooks.

Contact Name above Company Name on 1099's.

I just spoke to the IRS and they suggest filing a 1099-R. So does that mean I need to go to all of the records for my vendors and remove the contact or the contact name will just print again? Can I file the 1099-R through QB online or do I have to do it manually? 

 

I cannot believe I am the only customer that this happened to. Will QB charge me for this?

We recognize the importance of this matter and that this isn't the experience we want you to have when using the program. Yes, you're right. You'll want to remove the contact name from your vendor's record. This way, only the company name shows when you print them out. Also, please be aware that QuickBooks Online (QBO) doesn't support 1099-R at the moment, and you'll need to file 1099-R outside the program. Thus, there won't be any charges from QBO since you'll be filing it manually.

Contact Name above Company Name on 1099's.

How did you resolve this problem?  I received an IRS notice for the same issue.  I fill in Company Name and Full name.  Both are showing up on the 1099.  Is there some way to alter this?  I wish to keep the full name line in my Vendor information, but not report it on the 1099.

Hello there, JLH1. I got some details about having the full name on your vendor's account but not on 1099s when filing your tax forms.

 

The Display Name field affects 1099 forms. If you enter the company and vendor's names, they will appear on printed forms. The program can't display only the company name while keeping the full name in the system. To ensure that only the company name appears on printed forms, consider removing the vendor's name from the field before preparing your 1099s. After filing, you can restore it in each vendor's profile.

he program does not allow displaying only the company name on printed forms while retaining the full name in the system.

 

Why don't you just fix this bug so I don't have to re-enter vendor information, and pass it along to your product developers.
