Deleting a paycheck after 941 was paid - QB Desktop

I created paychecks last Friday and realized a check needed to be deleted after I e-filed our (weekly submitted) 941 this Wednesday. I can go in and delete the check (that the employee has not deposited), but I'm wondering if there is a way to subtract the overpayment of federal withholding from last week on this week's withholding without dealing with the overpayment at the end of the quarter. Any help?

Re: Deleting a paycheck after 941 was paid - QB Desktop

Hello sarahkab405,

I appreciate you for taking the time to respond with additional clarification concerning the tax overpayment. I have some insights on this that I'm sure you'll find helpful.

For those who have the payment frequency set to every after each payroll, please know that the due balance will automatically deduct by the overpayment amount. As long as there are remaining tax liabilities that you need to make, the system will still be able to adjust the total from the Pay Liabilities section.

You no longer need to wait for the filing of the federal form to get a refund or apply to the next quarter dues. In case you want to know more when to use a liability adjustment in QuickBooks, I'm also attaching the article I recommend on this:

Keep in touch with me here should you have any additional questions or concerns with the overpayment. I want to make sure you're taken care of.

Hi there, @sarahkab405.

Since you've already filed your 941, I'd suggest filing a 941-X to help you settle the overpayment. This way, you can correct and amend the information you previously field 941.

You can check this article for the detailed steps on preparing and submitting form 941-X: Correct or Amend Forms 941 and 940

Re: Deleting a paycheck after 941 was paid - QB Desktop

Thanks for your reply JasroV. I misspoke when I said I "filed" my 941 on Wednesday. I made my weekly payment towards the quarterly 941 but have not yet filed the 3rd quarter 941. I still have the rest of this month before I actually file, so I was wondering if I could rectify the overpayment (due to a deleted check) before I submit it as an overpayment on my quarterly. (**I did just read somewhere that it's a line item on the quarterly form and I need to either check the box for sending me a check, or the box indicating I would like it to apply to next quarter's return** I was just hoping that I could somehow deduct the amount of the overpayment when I make the payment for this week's payroll.)
