Thanks for sharing the error code you've got. I'll share some insights about this and on how to resolve it.


This error typically occurs if the latest tax table wasn't completely downloaded or installed. To fix this, I recommend reviewing the active and inactive items on the following lists for any invalid characters.

  • Payroll Item List
  • Employee Name List
  • Chart of Accounts
  • Vendor List
  • Company Information window

Here's how:

  1. Go to Lists at the top, the select the group you want to review, then select the Include inactive box.
  2. Double-click the item.
  3. Check if there's no invalid characters such as # or blank field.



Then, update QuickBooks Desktop to the latest release. Lastly, download the payroll updates.


Please follow the steps below:


To update QuickBooks Desktop:

  1. Choose Help at the top menu bar, then select Update QuickBooks.
  2. Click Update Now at the top, then check the box next to Reset Update.
  3. Select Get Updates.



To download the latest payroll tax table:

  1. Select Employees at the top menu bar, then choose Get Payroll Updates.
  2. Check the box next to Download Entire Update.
  3. Click Download Latest Update.
  4. Click OK.

I received this code when trying to add a bank exported item into Qbks Desktop.  It has happened a few times.  I can't seem to find out what is wrong.  Have you ever seen this one?

  4. Follow the on-screen steps to install and agree to the terms and conditions.
  5. When the install finishes, double-click the icon on your Windows desktop to open the tool hub.
