I am trying to print my 2020 W-2s and my 940 tax form

I get a prompt saying :you are about to create a tax form for the 2020 tax year, but the form installed in Quickbooks is for 2019.  Either you havent installed the latest update of the form is not yet available."

I have installed the latest updates.  Anyone know if its just that the forms arent available yet?  If not, any idea when they will be?

Thanks for reaching out to us, Barb.

I'm here to share some information about when will be the Form W-2 become available in QuickBooks.

The error message that you've encountered means that the tax forms are still unavailable in the program. For QuickBooks Desktop Payroll Enhanced and Payroll Standard, users can file their W-2s electronically or manually with IRS, then print and send them to their employees starting January 1, 2021.

For QuickBooks Desktop Assisted Payroll, the Form W-2 will be available to view and print in the Payroll Tax Center on January 13, 2021. With regard to Form 940, it will also be available this January 2021.

Additionally, I recommend reading these articles to help you prepare for the 2020 tax season:

The total wages on my 940 forms is incorrect

Hello, @kishorp.

QuickBooks fills the 940 forms by gathering information throughout QuickBooks to compile accurate information.

This article outlines where each item comes from: How QuickBooks populates the 940.

If you could share which line on your 940 is incorrect, we can look into it more in-depth together.  I’m also interested to hear if you’re seeing any errors. It could also be that FUTA wages may be causing discrepancies. If that appears to be the case, this article will help walk through some troubleshooting: Troubleshooting Form 940 with exempt FUTA wages.

Let me know about the above details and I’ll be right here to provide more specific troubleshooting. Thanks in advance!
