How can I associate a sales Tax payable account with a product?

For some reason my Quickbooks online now has 8 Sales Tax Payable accounts ins the chart of accounts. I can't delete any of them because I get the message that they are associated with a product on service. I can't find any place where I can associate any tax account to a particular product or service. There is an additional issue in that there are entries in more than one account creating a problem when paying. I pay manually and do not use the sales tax payment feature in the software as it has traditionally calculated things wrong. Can anyone help me clear this up? Thanks, Jim

The products associated with sales tax are invoices and sales receipts transactions. If you change the sales tax, the sales tax payable account will be linked to the product.


As for the multiple sales tax accounts, were you using QuickBooks Desktop before? If so, that's the reason why you have multiple accounts.
