How can I tax items at different rates on the same sales receipt?

Hi, I run a POS and I'm new to qbo.  I'd like to record daily sales using a recurring 'daily sales receipt' template that I setup.  However, when I try to save my template after recording my drawer totals I get the error message in red below.  I know that I can overcome this by creating a new tax rate at 0% and applying it to those line items that should not add to my taxes however this seems like a dirty way of doing it and I'd like my QB to be clean and clear.

How do I simply turn off taxes for those line items where I don't need to record it

Something's not quite right
Make sure all your transactions have a sales tax rate before you save.

Hello there, ryanaustin.

The only way to use different tax rates for different items is to create a sales tax item with a 0% rate and apply this to those items that should not add to your taxes.

Turning off the taxes for those line items that don't need to be recorded is a great product suggestion. You can send it directly to our engineers by clicking the Gear icon, then choosing Feedback. They can check on it and have it considered to their future updates.

Let me know if you've additional questions. I'll be around to answer.
