How to correct e filed 1099?

I can see the corrected amount in QB but with I go to process the 1099, it reverts back to the original document with the lesser hours. I only have this with one 1099.

Any way to void and make a new one? I can find paper forms to file corrected 1099, do I use that instead?

Hello there, gp4seth.

Allow me to step in and provide insights about 1099s.

Once you e-filed the form using 1099 E-File Service, you can no longer make corrections. What you can do is make corrections in a printed copy and manually sending it by mail to the IRS.

For more information, I'm adding an article that you'll find helpful: Prepare and file your 1099s using QuickBooks Online.

Re: How to correct e filed 1099?

Thank you. But what a pain. I went online to access the IRS 1099 forms,  and all you have to do is put a check in the “Corrected” box on the top of the page but you have to do this four4 times,  and they will not accept a scanned version the Red copy that you must mail to the IRS. 20 min later I after navigation and filling out forms I gave up and sent a note to our accountant. I’m sure it will cost me another $50.  Wouldn’t it be nice to be able to check a box in QB and send.? 😁

Thank you for sharing the steps you've tried, @gp4seth.

As of the moment, there isn't an option to check a box for corrections of your 1099 in QuickBooks.

I also encourage sending the same message to our product engineers. Messages sent to them will be considered for future updates and they will also know how to improve your experience in preparing and filing your 1099 though QuickBooks. Just click the Gear icon then choose Feedback.

Re: How to correct e filed 1099?

Having a similar issue. Used QBO to file a contractor 1099 for an amount over $600 paid via check. I had made another payment, under $600, to the same contractor using Paypal. I was under the impression that since this was done via Paypal, I didn't have to include it in my QBO 1099. Wrong. I sent that Paypal payment via Friends & Family - I usually use MassPay, but this was a singleton, so I didn't. After further Googling, I found a reference stating that Paypal won't issue 1099K's for Friends & Family payments as it considers those "personal". Such payments need to be included on a 1099-MISC issued by the payor. So, now I have to do a corrected 1099-MISC.

For filing a 1099-MISC corrected online, I found the site, https://efile4biz.efile1.com

Very easy and economical. They will e-file any form for you. They will file a correction, even if you, like me, had already e-filed a 1099-MISC using QBO. The cost for filing the corrected 1099 was just $7.95. I know my accountant would have charged much more plus time in explanations, etc.

You can automatically create an account and sign-in with your Intuit credentials, and share payee info from QBO. You pay as you go for files submitted. No monthly fees.
