I am facing a problem. How can i change my sales tax agency from California to Delaware. I cannot change that one. Please guide me asap. Thanks.

The option to change the sales tax agency from California to Delaware is unavailable. The Automated Sales Tax feature calculates your sales tax based on the following information:

 

  • The state where you have nexus and are registered to collect sales tax
  • The physical address of your business
  • The physical address on the sales receipt or invoice
  • The product mapping you have associated with the products or services you are selling
  • The exemption status of your customer

To calculate the sales tax for Delaware, you'll need to update the shipping address in the customer's profile. If this information is available, the calculation will depend on your company address.

 

Then, toggle the customer's name on the transaction you've created to refresh the tax calculation.

No, if want to record sales tax in sales tax category and the original expense as separate so that i could know how much sales tax we paid. How can i know?

Like here in UAE we put the vat 5% separate, which expense has vat, which is exempt, So why do not in US quickbooks online?

You can track this information manually, accountsusa.


This is the workaround we recommend since there isn't a way to enter tax on a purchase transaction. 

 

Here are the steps to do so:

 

  1. Go to the Gear icon at the top then go to Products and Services. 
  2. Click the New tab.
  3. Choose non-Inventory or Service. 
  4. Enter Sales Tax and leave the price and rate. 
  5. Select the account you've created in the income field. 
  6. Make sure that the taxable is unchecked.
  7. Select Save and close.  

Once setup, you can add this item on the second line when creating the a purchase transaction.
