I hate your new sales tax and want to go back

Tell me how I can get rid of this piece of crap so I can go back to my old sales tax settings.  I hate it and need to finish my work.  Stop "helping" me and leave things alone.

I can walk you through the steps in getting back to the manual sales tax feature, rmamos.

Here's how:

  1. Click Taxes.
  2. Click Sales tax settings at the top right.
  3. At the bottom of the screen, you'll see "Want to temporarily switch to the old tax center? Switch here." Click Switch here.
  4. Click Switch.

Note: You can no longer re-enable this feature after disabling it.

I've got an article for you to read more of the FAQ's: https://quickbooks.intuit.com/community/Help-Articles/Switch-to-US-Automated-Sales-Tax/td-p/192599.

I hate your new sales tax and want to go back

Thank you for your reply.  However, I have a problem with the word "temporarily".  I do not want to temporarily go back.  I figured out how to go back on my own and I want to permanently go back so that I never have this happen again.

The automated sales tax center said I owed taxes for other quarters and did not give me a way to delete the incorrect quarters.  That is what prompted me to write this message in the first place.  If you guys force a change on users, the change should not cause users to have to do more work.  Otherwise, it is not a welcome change - it is a nuisance.  Please tell me how to opt out of the upcoming change so that I do not ever have to deal with it.

Hi rmamos,

I'd like to clarify that switching back to manual sales tax is permanent, not temporary.

I've already sent feedback on the article shared by ShiellaGraceA, and I'd appreciate it if you can do the same thing. Please open it, and click No at the bottom.

We'll be around if you have other questions.

So the message literally says "Would you like to temporarily switch back?", yet the change is permanent?  You do not see a problem with that?  I don't mean to be a stickler here, but Intuit does not have a history of leaving its product alone and allowing customers to continue using it the way they worked hard to set it up.

When I had the desktop product, if I did not renew every few years, features would stop working.  When Google proposed changes to their Gmail, it too offered to "temporarily go back to classic mode" and then they forced the change earlier this year.  I am a technician and I still do not appreciate changes I did not request.  If I do not voice my displeasure with these changes, Intuit will assume users welcome them, and I really don't.  And I mean, I really really don't.

Hi there, rmamos.

I understand how the manual sales tax feature would be beneficial to your business. Finding new ways to adapt to our customers’ needs is how QuickBooks gets even better. Your suggestion helps our Product Development team decide what update will implement in the future.

For the meantime, you may want to consider the workaround provided by my colleagues above.

The option to switch is only available if you're using the old tax center before, Mariaciti.

If your account is new, you'll be automatically set up to Automated Sales Tax. Although, if you had the old one before, you can find the Switch here link on the Edit settings page.

If you're still unable to see it, we can do some steps. Let's start with opening QuickBooks Online using an incognito window. This is the best place to spot web-cache issues. If you're able to see the Switch here link, go back to the main browser, then clear the cache. We advise our users to clear them out now and then. This is to prevent our system to behave differently.

Moreover, you can use a different browser like Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox.

You can also check the article ShiellaGraceA provided.

I hate your new sales tax and want to go back

I am a new QB user and it came with automated sales tax. When going to sales tax settings there is no option to temporarily switch to old tax center. I have had 2 chats/cases with QB team and two phone case/2 more cases. No one is able to help me switch to the old tax center. They keep saying I am on a hybrid tax center of both old and automated. I DO NOT WANT THAT! I WANT THE OLD TAX CENTER. How can I get the old tax center?

Hi there, jwall459.

Welcome to the Online Community. Thanks for sharing the result after contacting our Technical Support Team.

For a newly signed up account, the option to switch to the old tax center is currently unavailable. I recognize the importance of having the ability to move from one Sales Tax interface to the other (old to automated).

We're always looking for ways to make the product a more versatile tool for customers. I'll send feedback about this feature on your behalf for consideration in a future enhancement.

I'm not a new member and I don't see the Switch Here link to go back.  I've tried incognito and cleared caches but I still don't see it.

Thanks and welcome to the Community, @cameron4.

Existing users who upgraded to the automated sales tax feature can no longer switch back to the manual option. During the process, you'll see a prompt warning about what happens if you proceed with the changes.

For future reference, I suggest visiting the Switch to Automated Sales Tax article. It contains important notes about Automated Sales Tax.

I want to make sure this is taken care of for you. If you have additional questions or concerns while working in QBO, leave a comment below. I’m here ready to help you.

Hello, @MMOODY1101.

I see how this can be a little tricky. Rest assured, I'm here to provide you the support you need.

As my colleague @AlcaeusF mentioned above, once you switch to the new Automated Sales Tax Center, you'll not able to switch back to the previous system. If you like custom rates, then you may be interested in the Hybrid feature. To get this update, you'll have to reach out to our Online Support to get a ticket submitted. Here's how:

  1. Go to the (?) Help icon, then Contact Us.
  2. Type in your question or concern in the Description Box then hit Let's Talk.
  3. Choose how you want to get contacted.

You'll hear from our Online Support in no time! They'll be able to provide you with more information on the new Automated Sales Tax and the Hybrid.

Let me know how the conversation goes. I'll be here if you need anything else. Have a nice day.

Been on two separate calls with tech help and engineer. No one can solve. The new tax report and changes it made to invoice is bad. No help. We have been a Quickbooks customer for 15 years and QB Online for 5. Don't know what to do?

Thank you so much for your non-stop support with QuickBooks, rb12345___.

The purpose of the Automated Sales Tax is to calculate, collect, track sales tax easier. Though, the option to revert to the old sales tax is unavailable, I'll send a suggestion to our engineers to have this kind of option.

I also suggest contacting our Customer Support Team again. The more feedback they receive, the more chances of having this implemented.

We can also create a sales tax adjustment if you need to make a correction. This helps to keep your sales tax records accurate.

Comment again if you have more questions about taxes. I'll be happy to assist you.

So I switched today, thinking it might be more helpful. I should have come here first. Quickbooks has deleted all of the info pertaining to my customers who are tax exempt, and I have no way of recovering this information now? Great job Intuit. Not.

Not only that, but it also no longer calculates tax automatically when creating invoices. This is a MAJOR issue for us, because if we forget to click on "See the math", then it doesn't add the tax to their total. Why would you remove that?

I hate your new sales tax and want to go back

Hi there, audrey78.

The Automated Sales Tax feature automatically calculates sales tax amount based on the state where you have nexus, registered to collect sales tax, the physical address of your business and on the sales forms. Also, QuickBooks Online (QBO) will calculate the sales tax based on the customer's address on file.

With that said, let's make sure the shipping address in the customer's profile lets QBO calculate sales tax accurately. If this information is not available, the calculation will depend on your listed company.

For the deleted customer's info for tax-exempt, I'd suggest contacting our Customer Support Team. They'll pull up your account in a secure environment and investigate what's causing this issue. They'll also check on what they can do to recover the missing information.

Here's how to reach them:

  1. Click Help on the top menu.
  2. Hit Contact Us.
  3. Enter your concern in the Search field.
  4. Tick Let's talk.
  5. Select Start a chat, Get a callback, or Get the number to connect with us.

I'm always available here to lend a helping hand if you need anything else in QBO. Thank you for bringing us your questions.

I'm using QBO and just reluctantly switched to the new tax center for the new year (2020). I'm very sorry I did because it's terrible. The switching back option in this thread does not show up on my account in QBO. Can you tell me how I change back to the old tax center?

BTW, none of my previous (history) data shows since changing over. :-(

Hello @bmarch,

At this time, there isn't an option to switch back to the old sales tax center after migrating to the new one. This is because all the new QuickBooks Online accounts are now using the new automated sales tax center.

But don't worry, you find all your existing records from the old sales tax center by pulling up a certain report. To do so:

  1. Go to Reports.
  2. Scroll down the page to the Sales Tax category of your reports.
  3. Select Sales Tax Liability ReportTaxable Sales Detail, or Taxable Sales Summary.

I've got you the following articles below in case you need some ideas about how you can customize and save your sales tax report:

Please touch base with me here for all of your QuickBooks needs, @bmarch. I'm always happy to help.

I hate your new sales tax and want to go back

I just got switched to the auto tax center. Just when I was going to pay my quarterly sales tax, WHAT A MESS!!!

I tried to get back to the old and NOWHERE did it say how or if I could.

I have NOW had to take an enormous amount of time for this I DON'T have trying to get back to where I was comfortable in the OLD tax center.

I tried ways suggested on here but NO WHERE does it say at the bottom of my screen gives me an option to switch back

In Washington I have to charge a different sales tax for every city I do business in. So after YEARS of collecting the cities and up-dating them when they change is now gone

I want to go back to the OLD SALES TAX..HOW?

Hello Orcabruce,

Once you've switched to the Automated Sales Tax, you can no longer go back to the old Sales Tax Center on your own. I'd recommend reaching out to our Customer Care Team about this. They might have a way to do this.

  1. Click Help in the upper-right corner and select Contact Us.
  2. Enter the details about your sales tax concern and click Let's talk.
  3. Select how you want to reach them (phone, chat, or email).
  4. Enter the necessary information to complete your request.

I'll also send feedback about this so our Product Development Team can evaluate it. Your feedback helps improve the product to suit your business needs.

Let us know if you have other concerns.

Please give users the option to not use automated sales tax. It's a great feature for some, but a nightmare for others. Most users I consult with do not need this feature on and it does not play well with other third party applications.
