I moved my Sales Tax info to the new Sales Tax version. All of my previous tax payments are messed up. Can I go back to the old version?

Greetings, @nancy13/

Thanks for posting the Community. I can help walk you through getting back to the old Sales Tax version in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

Just to confirm, are you referring to the Automated Sales Tax feature as the new version? If so, please note that once you go back to the old version, you can no longer re-enable this feature.

Here's how:

1. Go to the Taxes menu at the left pane, then Sales tax.
2. Select Sales tax settings in the upper right.
3. At the bottom, you'll see "Want to temporarily switch to the old tax center? Switch here." Click the here link.

13.PNG

That should do it. For more information, you can also check out this article for future reference: Set up and use Automated Sales Tax.

Please let me know how it goes or if you're referring to something else by posting below. I'm always here to help you out. Wishing you all the best!

Hi HAM73,

Thank you for posting here in the Community. I'd be glad to assist you with any concern you may have with Sales tax in QuickBooks Online.

When you switch back to the old Sales Tax Center, the process will turn to manual. You can no longer go back and use the Automated Sales Tax feature once you make the change in the system.

If you wish to use the manual sales tax feature moving forward, you can follow these steps:

  1. On the left panel, click Taxes.
  2. Select Sales tax settings at the top right.
  3. At the bottom part of the screen, you'll see "Want to temporarily switch to the old tax center? Switch here." Select the here hyperlink.

If you want to know more about how the migration works, I recommend visiting these articles:

Please don't hesitate to reach out to me if you need additional clarification with switching sales tax. I'll be sure to get back to you.

I moved my Sales Tax info to the new Sales Tax version. All of my previous tax payments are messed up. Can I go back to the old version?

So, I went to the new automated sales tax system.
I was working around in it but wanted to get my taxes pd so didn't have a lot of time to explore.
There was a message that asked me if I wanted to TEMPORARILY SWITCH to the old tax center.
I selected to switch just to get my taxes done the way I was familiar with, with the intention to go back to the new sales tax center when I had more time to explore.
Well, that hosed up my QB online and would not allow me to do anything in the sales tax center.
I contacted telephonic assistance and got a really nice person who simply told me to clear my cookies in my system.
That took care of the immediate issue however, I also found out that I could not go back to the new automated system!!!
When I searched the help feature, I found some content that said "Important: After disabling Automated Sales Tax, either by performing the steps above or contacting Customer Care, you can no longer re-enable the feature".
This "IMPORTANT" message is on the same page that asked if I wanted to "TEMPORARILY switch to the old tax center"
In my language, the word temporarily means that you can go back to something...
In addition, when you do elect to switch back it does not provide you the same "IMPORTANT" message before you elect the switch as it does in the help feature, albeit buried.
I have attached a screen shot of the help screen - please pay attention to instruction #3 where you use the word "TEMPORARILY"
This is at best DECEIVING!!!

This "Temporary" change inactivates all of my Components.  QBO Support suggested I make new components and a new Sates Tax Rate.  And then go back to all of the customers and Invoices and change them manually.  Ok, that would take years.  WOW.  Then they said they really don't recommend changing back to the old way, it might mess up the sales tax rates.  Really?  Then why did you let us do it?

Thank you for replying to this thread, @Pruet.

The reason why we are unable to recommend revert to manual sales tax, this is because you can no longer re-switch this feature. We don't want to mess up your business.

We always value customers who are keen to give us their feedback. I will be sure to pass on what you've shared here in the Community to our product engineer. We'll take this chance to fully support our customer's needs in accessing the automated sales tax in the future.

In regards to the invoices of your customer, since you've created a new component and sales tax. You have an option to make that as a default rate to your customer so that moving forward if you create invoices, the new tax rate will take effect. To correct the previous invoices, you will need to edit manually.

 Let me guide you how:

  1. Go to the Taxes tab, select Edit sales tax settings under the Related task.
  2. Click the drop-down arrow in the Default sales tax then choose the new tax you've created.
  3. Hit Save

For more information about default tax, check this article: Default customer sales tax rate in QuickBooks Online

For future reference on how to correct invoices created without sales tax, you can browse this article: Sales tax in QBO.

Please come back if you have other concerns in your account. I'm always here to help. Have a nice day!

We clicked on Temporarily go back to old tax center because we needed to address tax code duplication caused by a software migration that synced to QBO. The Intuit Product Engineer's choice to use the word temporary suggests to the user that the change would not be permanent.

We use QBO because of the Intuit's reputation as the industry leader for small business accounting and always doing the right thing for their clients.

Can you confirm Intuit's current position that they are not offering a uniform and honest customer experience because some users needed to make adjustments to tax reporting settings during the AST implementation period and trusted that temporary meant non-permanent?

We genuinely appreciate your continued support.

Best,

Joe

I want to make sure that this will be taken cared of right away, @jletizia

I know that Sales tax is a great part and can help your business needs. I'll personally send feedback to our product engineers about the word temporary showing on the Sales Taxes page. They will use this suggestion when considering how to remove the word or modify the description to avoid confusion when switching back to the old Sales Tax Center.

I've recommended visiting our QuickBooks Blog weekly to be updated about our recent news and updates, including product innovations.

Keep in touch if there's anything I can help you with. I'm always around to provide further assistance.

Hi @Michelle_b,

Thank you for the quick reply. I appreciate the engineering team taking action to the change the wording so that future users will not be confused when the the change is permanent. This customer first spirit is exactly why we use Intuit products.

In alignment with that spirit of doing right by the customer, what can we do to allow users that trusted the previous wording to migrate back to AST?

Thank you,

Joe

Thanks for getting back to us, @jletizia.

Since the option to go back to Automated Sales Tax in QuickBooks Online (QBO) is currently unavailable once you returned to the old one, I highly suggest contacting our Phone Support team. They have tools that can pull up your account in a secure environment check if they can migrate it for you.

Here's how to reach them:

  1. In QBO, click the Help (question mark) icon at the top right.
  2. Select Contact Us at the bottom to connect with our live support.

Just in case, I'll add these articles for future reference:

Thanks for joining this conversation, @TH10.

The option to go back to the old version of sales tax can be found in the Sales tax settings in QuickBooks Online (QBO). If you're unable to see it, try logging into your QuickBooks Online (QBO) account using a private browser (incognito). There are times that the browser is full of frequently accessed page resources, causing some unusual responses.

Here's how:

  • Press Ctrl Shift (Google Chrome).
  • Ctrl Shift (Firefox or Internet Explorer).
  • Control Option (Safari).

Once signed in, go back to the Sales Tax Center to double-check.

Just in case, I'll add these articles for future reference:

If it works, return to your default browser and perform a clear cache. Every so often the cache becomes overwhelmed with older data which can potentially cause viewing and performance issues. Clearing it will refresh the system, and you'll be able to work with a clean slate. However, if the issue persists, try using other supported browsers.

Please know that I'm only a few clicks away if you have any other issues or concerns. I'll be happy to help. Have a great day!

I moved my Sales Tax info to the new Sales Tax version. All of my previous tax payments are messed up. Can I go back to the old version?

Hi @FritzF,

Thank you for your reply. I have contacted the phone support team about moving back to the new sales tax version twice. These calls were separated by several months in 2019. Both times they told that me the issue is in the hands of the engineering team and that there is nothing else that could be done besides waiting and hoping that a future release allowed us to move back to the new sales tax version.

Can you recommend a different route or possibly a method to get past this response?

Thank you,

Joe

Hey there, @jletizia.

I want to make sure your concerns are addressed. At this time, there isn't another route that would better assist you with this issue. I recommend reaching out to our Support Team one last time to receive the best updates on this matter. QuickBooks has recently updated the software, which means that some features have changed within the product to make an easier layout for customers.

If you'd like to look further into those updates, I suggest checking out our Blog.

If you have any other concerns, please let me know. Have a good evening.

Hello Terryjoe,

Currently, the option to switch back to the old Sales Tax interface has been removed. This is for the users to experience the new one and gather feedback about it. If you need to go back to the old Sales Tax interface, we recommend contacting our Customer Care Team. They can switch your set up temporarily.

  1. Click Help in the upper-right corner and select Contact Us.
  2. Enter the details of your sales tax concern and click Let's talk.
  3. Select how you want to reach them (phone or chat).
  4. Enter the necessary information required for the request.

You might want to browse this link to know more about the Automated Sales Tax: Set up and use automated sales tax in QuickBooks Online.

The customer care team is clueless. We chatted with a Marjorie S for quite some time to resolve the issue with my sale tax and she was of no help.  The new version is not showing how much tax was collected for the month.

Welcome to the Community, @oldflorida.

I'm here to show you how to look at what you owe for Sales Tax.

You can run a Sales Tax Liability Report to look at how much tax is collected for a certain time range. Here's how to run this report:

  1. Go to the Reports tab in the left-hand menu.
  2. In the Find report by name, type in Sales Tax Liability.
  3. Once opened, at the top-right of the page, click on the Customize button to filter the report.
  4. Hit Run report to apply the filters.

If you don't see any data in the report, then let's perform some troubleshooting. Let's begin by opening an Incognito Window or a Private Window:

  • Google Chrome: Ctrl + Shift + N
  • Mozilla Firefox: Ctrl + Shift + P
  • Internet Explorer: Ctrl + Shift + P
  • Safari: Command + Option + P

If you're able to view the report data in the Private/Incognito Window, then we can clear the cache of the web browser. This way, it'll prevent unusual behavior to your browser and optimize your QuickBooks Online (QBO) performance. Here's a link to help you with the process: Clear Web Browser History

How can a major company like Intuit allow this? It is pure negligence and may even be legally actionable. Intuit, can you tell no one likes the new Sales Tax Interface? It also doesn't work cleanly with approved 3rd party invoicing plug ins.  The woman I just spoke with at Customer Support would not help. Didn't even feel bad about it. Shame on you Intuit for leaving your customers unsupported. We know your engineers could change this tomorrow, but you wont allow it. Why? If someone wants to help me revert back to the original sales tax center, please contact me.

QBO has been trying to get my business account changed for months to the new Sales Tax Center, I kept saying "No". Today when I wanted to enter my Feb Texas sales tax payment, it's the new center with no option to access to the old one.  Ok, I set it up and not only find that it is not user friendly, but the calculations in QBO are off with no way to correct it unless you want an incorrect entry.  In essence, if it's not broken, don't fix it, appears to be another way to have things taken out of your control.  Called support, no immediate help at all.  Not a happy user.
