I posted a sales tax payment under the wrong agency. How do I correct that?

Thank you for getting back to us with additional details about your sales tax concern. Let me share some information regarding how you can correct the tax agency in QuickBooks.

 

The agency that the system use will depend on what you selected when setting up the sales tax. Since you can no longer change it for existing sales taxes, I suggest deleting the payment and creating a new one with the right agency.

 

Here's how to delete a payment:

 

  1. On the left panel, click Taxes.
  2. Go to the Sales Tax tab.
  3. Press the History option in the upper-right. 
  4. Search for the agency, then hit View return
  5. Below Payment details, select the date of the payment. 
  6. Choose Delete

Once done, you can create your own sales tax with the correct tax agency. You can follow these steps:

 

  1. On the left panel, click Taxes.
  2. Go to the Sales Tax tab.
  3. Select Sales tax settings in the upper-right.
  4. Create a new sales tax by clicking the Add rate option. 
  5. Enter the necessary information.
  6. Choose the correct agency.
  7. Press Save.

Lastly, you can review your existing transactions and ensure you're using the correct sales tax.
