Importing QDB file into online

Hi - I have an accountant that sent me a QDB company file that I need to bring into Quickbooks online. I'm wondering if this is something that can be done without the Quickbooks software. If so, can you please point me to the instructions?

Importing QDB file into online

Hey @Anonymous,

Totally, if you are looking to transfer from QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online, you'll first need to convert your file. QBBs are compressed backup files of QBW (standard) QuickBooks Desktop files, what your system uses to do a restore.

What year and version is the QuickBooks Desktop QBB file from? You can use a trial version of QuickBooks Desktop to convert the QBB file into a QBW so you can transfer your data over to QuickBooks Online, but it depends on the version you are using.

There are numerous trial links out on the web, these were provided to other users who also needed to convert their QBB files. Since I don't know which version you have, I will provide links to as many versions as I have! Let me know if you need another and we can get you connected with the right people, like @MorganB.

If your version and year are in the above links, download the software but don't register it. We're just using the trial version to import and open your QBB file. Once the trial is installed, open your QBB file and the program will make a QBW file. Then, go to the Company drop-down select Export Company File to QuickBooks Online, and follow the instructions.

Happy exporting!

Importing QDB file into online

Hello @Anonymous,

Welcome to the community. So, your accountant sent you a QBD Quicken file and you want to bring it directly into QuickBooks Online without needing Quicken/QuickBooks Desktop (I am assuming you have QBO since you want to convert the file)? What version of QuickBooks are you using and who are you converting the file for (this will help narrow the options)?

Here are some instructions for how to convert Quicken to QuickBooks Online, it looks like you first have to export the QBD from Quicken as a CSV file.

I hope this helps!

Thanks for the response. I fat fingered my message earlier and meant to say its a QBB file from Quickbooks Pro. This is a file from my accountant and I would like to transition to using Quickbooks online vs desktop version so I don't have to worry about using a specific computer. I used to have Quickbooks pro but my computer died so would like to avoid this situation in the future.

I appreciate you performing the steps provide by, @Anonymous. Let's make sure that the QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) trial version you have installed is a supported version of QuickBooks.

QBDT 2018-2020 are those versions that allow you to convert files to QuickBooks Online. Currently, the available trial link on our page is for QuickBooks Desktop 2020.

Then, refer to this article link to convert files from QBDT to QBO: https://quickbooks.intuit.com/learn-support/en-us/update-products/move-your-quickbooks-desktop-file-....
