Is anyone else having trouble with the Sales Tax Center and recording a tax payment? I am unable to enter the information.

First of all, I want to make sure that you get the best help possible. I’ve checked our records it seems we don’t have an open investigation about recording tax payment in QuickBooks Online (QBO).


Meanwhile, I can provide you the browser troubleshooting steps because QBO uses cache files to boost program processes.

 

To start, let's access your account using a private window. Doing this is a good start to isolate the root cause of the issue. 

 

Here are the shortcut keys:

 

Google Chrome: press Ctrl + Shift + N
Mozilla Firefox: Ctrl + Shift + P
Internet Explorer: Ctrl + Shift + P
Safari: Command + Shift + N
 

If it works fine, go back to your regular browser and clear its cache. This process aims to speed up your overall browsing experience.

 

But if you still have the same problem, switch to a different browser application, then log in and access your account from there.

 

If the problem continues after trying this step, I'd suggest getting in touch with our Customer Care Team. They have the tools that can help determine the reason behind this matter and have the ability to create an investigation if necessary.

 

Here’s how to contact support:

 

  1. Click on Help at the top menu bar then hit on the Contact Us button.
  2. Enter a brief description of the issue in the Description field
  3. Press on Let's talk.

      4. Select on getting a callback.

      5. Key in your contact details.

      6. Then tap on Confirm my call.

Is anyone else having trouble with the Sales Tax Center and recording a tax payment? I am unable to enter the information.

I cannot record my sales tax payment in the Sales Tax Center.  The sales taxes for my company are not calculated in Quickbooks, so I want to enter the data in the center manually.  I was able to do this in 2019, while choosing "previous" year and then changing the dates.

I've tried the help desk several times, and they cannot help me.  They suggested I try the community.

Hello there, @Linda75.

 

The option to choose the Previous Year option is only available in manual sales tax. Please note that once you switch to the Automated feature, the options are no longer the same.


I recommend entering sales tax manually by creating a check and choosing the Sales Tax Liability account.

 

Here's how:

 

  1. Click the Plus sign.
  2. Select Check.
  3. In the Payee field, select the vendor receiving the sales tax payments.
  4. In the Account field, select the Sales Tax liability account you created.
  5. Enter the amount of your sales tax payment.
  6. Select Save and close.

Thank you for your response regarding the entry of sales tax.  I had solved the problem by doing a journal entry as follows: 

Checking account: Credit the amount to be taken out of the account (full amount due less the discount)

Discount account: Credit the amount of the discount

Taxing Authority:  Debit for the full amount of the tax owed before the discount

 

I believe this is a workaround, perhaps easier than writing a check. 

 

I do have another question.  How do I change from automated sales tax calculation and payment to manual?

Changing back to the manual sales tax system is no longer possible as we've deprecated the feature. That being said, you can request to be switched to the newly introduced Hybrid Sales Tax system by contacting our QuickBooks Online Support Team. Contacting them is super easy. Take a look:

 

  1. Sign in to your QuickBooks Online company.
  2. Click Help at the top right.
  3. Select Contact Us to connect with a live support agent.

 

Contact QuickBooks Online customer support team

Is anyone else having trouble with the Sales Tax Center and recording a tax payment? I am unable to enter the information.

ALL MY SALES TAX DATA IS GONE SINCE THEY SWITCHED OVER TO AUTOMATIC SALES TAX.

7 years of quarterly reports and payments, GONE.

The 2 remaining quarters showing in the system are not consecutive and the payments have now been applied incorrectly!!!!

WTF?

Nobody can help me, and so far they are avoiding my requests to restore the manual sales tax system for me and give me bak my data.

I'm here to take care of your concern about your missing historical sales tax data. 

 

Your historical sales tax data are in the History section of your sales tax settings. If that isn't the case, I suggest you contact our Technical Support team for assistance. They can investigate and help you locate this missing data. 

 

Here's how:

 

  1. Log in to your QuickBooks Online (QBO) company.
  2. Click the Help menu.
  3. Select Contact us

Is anyone else having trouble with the Sales Tax Center and recording a tax payment? I am unable to enter the information.

Did you ever get it fixed? I just went to do my sales tax reporting and it prompted me to go to the "new" tax center and POOF everything gone. Says we don't owe anything, no past reports or payments showing. I said exactly the same thing you did! WTF??

I recommend contacting our QuickBooks Support Team to have this checked and investigated. They are also equipped with tools to determine the main cause of this.

 

Here's how:

 

For the old Help menu interface:

 

  1. Click the Help (?) icon at the top.
  2. Choose the Contact Us button.
  3. Type your issue or question on the What can we help you with box.
  4. Proceed with the Let's talk button.
  5. Select the Start messaging option.

For the new Help menu:

 

  1. Click the Help (?) icon at the top.
  2. Type Talk to a human.
  3. Enter your issue or question on the What can we help you with box.
  4. Choose I still need a human.
  5. Select the Start messaging option.
