Is anyone else having trouble with the Sales Tax Center and recording a tax payment? I am unable to enter the information.

First of all, I want to make sure that you get the best help possible. I’ve checked our records it seems we don’t have an open investigation about recording tax payment in QuickBooks Online (QBO).


Meanwhile, I can provide you the browser troubleshooting steps because QBO uses cache files to boost program processes.

 

To start, let's access your account using a private window. Doing this is a good start to isolate the root cause of the issue. 

 

Here are the shortcut keys:

 

Google Chrome: press Ctrl + Shift + N
Mozilla Firefox: Ctrl + Shift + P
Internet Explorer: Ctrl + Shift + P
Safari: Command + Shift + N
 

If it works fine, go back to your regular browser and clear its cache. This process aims to speed up your overall browsing experience.

 

But if you still have the same problem, switch to a different browser application, then log in and access your account from there.

 

If the problem continues after trying this step, I'd suggest getting in touch with our Customer Care Team. They have the tools that can help determine the reason behind this matter and have the ability to create an investigation if necessary.

 

Here’s how to contact support:

 

  1. Click on Help at the top menu bar then hit on the Contact Us button.
  2. Enter a brief description of the issue in the Description field
  3. Press on Let's talk.

      4. Select on getting a callback.

      5. Key in your contact details.

      6. Then tap on Confirm my call.

Is anyone else having trouble with the Sales Tax Center and recording a tax payment? I am unable to enter the information.

I cannot record my sales tax payment in the Sales Tax Center.  The sales taxes for my company are not calculated in Quickbooks, so I want to enter the data in the center manually.  I was able to do this in 2019, while choosing "previous" year and then changing the dates.

I've tried the help desk several times, and they cannot help me.  They suggested I try the community.

Hello there, @Linda75.

 

The option to choose the Previous Year option is only available in manual sales tax. Please note that once you switch to the Automated feature, the options are no longer the same.


I recommend entering sales tax manually by creating a check and choosing the Sales Tax Liability account.

 

Here's how:

 

  1. Click the Plus sign.
  2. Select Check.
  3. In the Payee field, select the vendor receiving the sales tax payments.
  4. In the Account field, select the Sales Tax liability account you created.
  5. Enter the amount of your sales tax payment.
  6. Select Save and close.

Thank you for your response regarding the entry of sales tax.  I had solved the problem by doing a journal entry as follows: 

Checking account: Credit the amount to be taken out of the account (full amount due less the discount)

Discount account: Credit the amount of the discount

Taxing Authority:  Debit for the full amount of the tax owed before the discount

 

I believe this is a workaround, perhaps easier than writing a check. 

 

I do have another question.  How do I change from automated sales tax calculation and payment to manual?

Changing back to the manual sales tax system is no longer possible as we've deprecated the feature. That being said, you can request to be switched to the newly introduced Hybrid Sales Tax system by contacting our QuickBooks Online Support Team. Contacting them is super easy. Take a look:

 

  1. Sign in to your QuickBooks Online company.
  2. Click Help at the top right.
  3. Select Contact Us to connect with a live support agent.
