I’m here to ensure you’ll be able to track it, @LucyB2.
Let me share some information on how to record this tax in QuickBooks Online.
You can create a Service item for lodging then manually calculate the amount. You’ll have to set the income account to the Liability Account. So when you pay the lodging tax, you can use that account to write a check.
Here how to create an item:
Select the Gear icon and then click Products and services.
Press the New button.
You can name it as Lodging Tax.
Under the Income account, choose the Liability account.
Enter the necessary details, then Save and close.
I’m adding this article that contains several resources about sales tax. It helps you to collect easier, pull up a report, and pay them moving forward.
Get back to me here should you have anything to follow-up about sales tax or other concerns with QuickBooks. I’ll be more than happy to assist you further.
