I appreciate you for reaching out about your concerns with the Maine Paid Family and Medical Leave (PFML) in QuickBooks Online Payroll, Lisa. The reason you're unable to access the documents is that this feature is currently unavailable. Let me provide you with additional information regarding its availability.
Please take note that the PFML program will fully take effect on January 1, 2026. However, payroll contributions already started last January 1, 2025. Currently, QuickBooks is working to implement all necessary updates and integrations to ensure everything is ready by that date.
For more detailed information about managing PFML, you can refer to this article: Set up and manage Maine Paid Family Leave.
Moreover, you can generate a payroll summary report to keep track of your payroll totals, including employee taxes and contributions in QBO. Refer to this article for more details: Create a payroll summary report in QuickBooks.
Let us know if you have further questions with managing your leaves in QBO Payroll. We'll be right here to help anytime.
Thank you for the information and please let me rephrase my question.
My PFML is set up. All employees are all set. I know deductions began 1/1/2025. I know when the program takes effect in 2026.
All payroll taxes are deducted and filed for me by you. The first filing will be after the quarter ends on 3/31/2025. When I go to the payroll tax area where it shows payments and filings all other filings say "filing automatically" and gives the date they are due by. However, under the PFML it says, "filing manually". I can preview all other filing forms except for PFML where I get an error if I try to preview as previously stated.
So please confirm for me that when the quarter is over and this first filing for the PFML tax comes due that you will be handling this automatically as you do my other taxes, and I have no need to be concerned that is states I need to file manually correct?

There is still no forms in QB. QB does not keep a tally of how much needs to be paid and when it is due (alerting us). For the price we pay to have QuickBooks and buy the program, this is unacceptable. Do the update so I can file what I need to on time please.
I am adding to this that I called support yesterday and was told that the hang up with the forms is that Maine changed their form. Now I have been told that if this isn't taken care of by next Monday the 21st through Wednesday the 23rd to call again. I am providing this update for others in Maine that might be experiencing the same.
Thank you for the update. QB customer service is rarely helpful and almost never understands the original question.
If they do not fix this problem in time you can get the payroll detail report from Quarter 1 and use that information to fill out a form yourself that you can find on the ME PFML site we had to register on. It should have a break down of what each employee paid for ME PFML for Q1 and what is owed by the company, in both liability (employee) and expense (employer). Here's to hoping they figure it out and we don't actually have to do something ourselves when we are paying for a service that is supposed to be doing it.
