Buy nowI have been trying all ways but cannot get MiUi to accept my file format from QB desktop. I go through payroll center, file forms, E-File State SUI and then do the interview but none of it works. Michigan Unemployment website says “file invalid. Fatal error” when I upload the txt file that QB creates. Anyone know how to fix it?
Hi there, @Accountant1001. Since Michigan released its latest payroll update, you'll also need to make sure your QuickBooks Desktop payroll tax table is updated so the file matches the new format required by the state.
This is the most common reason why the MiUi rejects the TXT file created through the Payroll Center. You can also check your unemployment account number, as Michigan requires it to be entered in this 7-digit format.

Hi @RazzieE I have updated to the newest payroll update and QB software but the txt file is not working when we upload to MiUi because MIWAM is no longer supported. But the txt file is being flagged as invalid. It has four options: Delimited (CSV Comma Delimited), ICESA (NASWA standard file format), EFW2 (formerly MMREF-SSA), and XML (Standard XML Format). Those are the four options MiUi gives for file format specifications. I tried to upload the .txt file that quickbooks exported but it did not validate through MiUI as it said fatal error and invalid file format.

I hear you @Accountant1001. Files often fail because of hidden characters. I suggest to double check the file content for any unnecessary characters that might cause the error, or try to use other accepted file format.
If the issue persists, I recommend reaching out to our QuickBooks Desktop live support team for immediate assistance. They have specialized tools to look at the details of your account and find exactly what is preventing your file to be uploaded.

I just concluded a call with QuickBooks Desktop support regarding the Michigan SUI filing issue. During the call, I walked the representative through the four file formats currently accepted by the State of Michigan’s new MiUI system and demonstrated that the text file generated by QBD does not meet any of those required formats.
Despite this, the representative stated that because Excel does not generate an error code during the macro process, she was unable to provide assistance. She further stated that there does not appear to be any update to QBD planned in the near future. The only workaround offered was manual data entry.
This response is unacceptable. Specifically:
With the Michigan SUI filing deadline of April 27, 2026, this is now a time‑critical compliance issue. Please advise immediately whether Intuit intends to release a compliant solution for QuickBooks Desktop, or whether QBD payroll customers are expected to absorb the risk and labor cost of manual filing due to Intuit’s inaction.
