NYS-45 is not calculating the NYC tax withheld and won't let me archive the return. How do I correct this?

Let's get your payroll tax calculated,  wendyk12.

If you're using QuickBooks Online, we need to make sure the employee isn't set as Do not Withhold. To review the payroll tax setup of your employee, check it here: Local tax setup and support: New York. Just proceed to the QuickBooks Online Payroll section.

Additionally, let's make sure that your state tax rate is updated. To check it:

  1. Go to the Gear icon and select Payroll Settings.
  2. Select State Taxes - NY.
  3. On the Company State Tax Information window, update the tax withholding rate, if needed. Then click Done.

Just a reminder, changes made will take effect on the upcoming payroll only. You'll want to contact our Customer Support Team to help recalculate your withholding.

  1. Go to the Help and select Contact us.
  2. Enter "NYS-45" or "Tax Withholding" as the topic. Then, click Let's talk.
  3. Choose either Get a callback or Start messaging.

Once it's updated, you should be able to pull up or archive the return.

In case you're using QuickBooks Desktop, here's a guide on how to fix incorrect state unemployment (SUI) or withholding (SIT).

You can also run the payroll checkup to help scan your payroll data in QuickBooks Desktop. This way, QuickBooks can identify if there are missing information and discrepancies.

If there are no changes, I'd also suggest reaching out to our QuickBooks Desktop Support. Go to the Help menu and select QuickBooks Desktop Help. Then click Contact Us.

Please let me know if you have other questions about your withholding. I'm here to help.
