Can you please help me turn off the new sales tax system and revert to the old? I've read through several threads and cannot find a consistent answer to this problem. I do not have the option under sales tax settings to turn off the new system. The new system is MUCH too simplified for our company and will not work. Here are my initial issues with the new system:
- Our services are only taxable in one state. These same services are used across multiple states.
- The new system does not allow me to generate sales tax due based on an accrual method because our general accounting method is cash. Therefore, previous sales tax periods show totals due. The old system allowed me to switch back and forth seamlessly from accrual to cash calculations.
- I am unable to record adjustments to our payments to account for rounding variances and timely filing discounts.
We are a QuickBooks Online customer. Thank you for your help.
I understand your points and the reason why you prefer to use the old sales tax method over the automated one. You should be able to go back to the old settings.
Since you're not seeing the option to do so, I recommend contacting our QuickBooks Care Support. They can help turn off the Automated Sales Tax method and bring back the Old/Manual Sales Tax in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

Good luck. I converted about 6 months ago & then spent months working with QB engineers to get set up the way I needed it to be because they told me there was no way to go back. We are at the border of WA & OR, OR doesn't charge sales tax, but coding sales with the sales tax program allows us to correctly track those sales & report them. That went away with the new version. And even though OR doesn't charge sales tax, we still have to report those sales to WA by law. I explained this many times to the engineers, and they helped by finding a way to force the codes into the system. It was quite a process. If you call in for help, the folks who answer were pretty useless on the matter for me. I ended up contacting the CEO/President's office and that was where I was finally able to get help. It was ugly for a while. Don't be afraid to escalate to the office of the CEO as it may be the only way you get any help.
