I have a client that needs a correction to a 1099 that was issued in 2017, so I need to reprint the forms for a correction. I can change the date in the area that says "View 1099 Report", but it doesn't stay on that year, in brings up 2018. How can I accomplish this? As a side question....does anyone know if you can handwrite a 1099 and a 1096 form? Or do they have to be typed?
Furnish a printed copy of your 1099 form Copy A with your Form 1096.
Submit or mail it to the nearest Internal Revenue Service Center.
Send updated copies to your vendors.
Lastly, as per the General Instructions for Certain Information Returns, handwritten forms are acceptable. However, it must be completely legible and accurate to avoid processing errors. Please visit Sections G article 1 for the step-by-step instructions preparing handwritten 1099 forms.
