Printing 1099s

I have a client that needs a correction to a 1099 that was issued in 2017, so I need to reprint the forms for a correction.  I can change the date in the area that says "View 1099 Report", but it doesn't stay on that year, in brings up 2018.  How can I accomplish this?  As a side question....does anyone know if you can handwrite a 1099 and a 1096 form?  Or do they have to be typed?

I am here to help you prepare and reprint your client's 1099 forms for 2017. Let's get started!


If I may ask, does the specific client have 1099 information for 2017 recorded in the system? If yes,  let's change the system Date of your computer and view the 1099 report again. Here's how:

  1. Right-click on the time in the bottom-right corner of your computer screen.
  2. Click on the Change Date and Time Settings link.
  3. On the Date and Time window, click Change Date and Time button.
  4. Change the year to January 262018.
  5. Click Ok.
  6. The system time has been updated.

Once you're able to generate the View 1099 report for 2017, revert the changes on the Date you've made.


On the other hand, in filling amended 1099 forms, what you can do is to manually file an amendment to make corrections to 1099 forms that were already reported.


Here's how to correct your 1099 forms:

  1. Submit correct form as soon as possible.
    1. Order 1099-MISC IRS FORM.
    2. Furnish a printed copy of your 1099 form Copy A with your Form 1096.
    3. Submit or mail it to the nearest Internal Revenue Service Center.
  2. Send updated copies to your vendors.

Lastly, as per the General Instructions for Certain Information Returns, handwritten forms are acceptable. However, it must be completely legible and accurate to avoid processing errors. Please visit Sections G article 1 for the step-by-step instructions preparing handwritten 1099 forms.
