Great day, @redmond-adrian.
I appreciate you for sharing detailed information about the error you're getting while activating your VAT in the Taxes tab. I checked our records but couldn't find any reported issues about this concern.
Let's check first if this is caused by browser cache or cookies. There are times that the browser is full of the frequently visited page which caused some unexpected behaviors.
Before we perform the necessary troubleshooting steps, I'd suggest you log in to your account using a private or incognito window to confirm if it's a browser-related issue. Here's how:
If that works, it means it's a browser-related issue. Let's remove the temporary internet files stored in your default browser. Note that this action may wipe out your saved information, so it's wise to take note of your passwords and URLs before doing so.
You can refer to this help article: Delete or disable cache and temporary internet files in your web browser. It's a great resource that can help you delete all cookies to clear errors.
I'd be pleased to know how it goes, @redmond-adrian. Know that we're always around here to help. Have a nice day ahead.
Many thanks for your suggestion on this. I tried both an incognito session and also a second browser but both give the same error.
When you say 'Activate VAT' this is not something I can see. From the left menu bar I select 'TAXES' and see a Green Button saying 'Lets Set Up your Taxes'. The next screen gives some options to set up and name a 'Custom Tax'. I get the feeling there is an activation for VAT somewhere else or a option I need to activate first?
I have attached the screen I see when I click on Taxes on the left menu bar.
Thank you for your prompt reply, as well as the screenshot you provided.
You're on the right track. You only need to continue right after you click the Set up tax button.
More details about sales tax are in this article: Set up your sales tax. Here you can find the steps on how you can add a tax rate and agency, add a combined rate, edit a tax rate, among others.
Post a question below if you have anything else in mind. I'll be sure to get back to you.
Ok so it appears there are different versions of QBO Plus, a global version and a UK version. The demo version from intuit is the global version and the VAT section does not seem to work for me (In Ireland). I spoke with a QBO company locally and they explained I needed to trial the UK version which has a different section for handling VAT.
