1099 Filing

I filed my 1099's on 1-13-25 with e-file through QB Online.  I am wondering if there is any place to confirm that the State filings were in fact done.  I says accepted under the status, but no indication if for IRS or State.  Please help.  Thanks!

1099 Filing

The e-filed state and federal tax forms in QuickBooks Online (QBO) Payroll can be tracked through the Payroll Tax Center, but separately identifying if the IRS or your state accepted them varies, Jenny. I'll share the steps on how you can review your forms and how to confirm if they're approved by both agencies.

To double-check your currently filed forms, follow these steps:

  1. Navigate to the Payroll menu, then Payroll tax.
  2. From the Filings tab, Filter the page to show your 1099 Form. If the Status is Accepted, it means they've been received and validated by your tax agency.
Filter the Filings tab of the Payroll Tax Center.png
  3. You can also scroll down to the Done section and see its Status beside the tax name.

For reference, here is the list of filing statuses and what they mean or indicate:

  • Not Transmitted: You've done your part, but we haven't sent it to the IRS, state, or local tax agency yet.
  • Transmitted: We've submitted the form, but the agency hasn't processed it yet. The handling time for the IRS and the state could take a few weeks.
  • Accepted: The agency has received and accepted the form.
  • Rejected: The receiving agency has received and denied the form. When this happens, kindly review the rejection letter emailed to you for the specific reason.

Please know that some states may not require separate 1099 filings, relying instead on the federal filing. It means that confirming (separately) if the state or the IRS approved the forms varies.

You'll receive an email notification from the IRS, and if applicable (depending on your state), you'll also receive a confirmation from your state. If not, you can check the IRS or state agency's website to verify. You can also consider contacting the agencies directly.

1099 Filing

As I stated, it says accepted, but no where does it indicate by whom.  I wish it would say IRS and State have accepted.  There also is no place to print just the recepient copy.  I can download all 4 copies, but don't see a place to select which copy I would like to print as I selected I would mail my own recepient copies.  Thanks.

1099 Filing

Hello Jenny04, I'm here to address your concerns about 1099 forms in QuickBooks Online (QBO) and provide detailed clarifications.

To begin, since the form's status is Accepted, it indicates that the IRS has successfully received and processed your form. You'll receive email notifications updating you when your state has received the form. It's important to note that some states do not require separate 1099 filings as they utilize the federal filing directly.

To have the ability to see which agency had received the form in your status, I recommend sending direct feedback to our product engineers for them to analyze and add this to future updates.

To send your request:

  1. Go to the Gear icon.
  2. Select Feedback.
  3. Enter your comments or product suggestions.
  4. Tap Next to submit.

Since you've already downloaded all four copies, please open the file to identify the recipient's copy. Please note that when you download the file, all copies are combined into a single document, and you can't choose to download a specific copy. Once you've located the recipient's copy, you can manually select that page for printing. After printing, you can distribute the copies as needed.

1099 Filing

Thanks for the reply.  I did receive email stating the "IRS has accepted one or more of your contractors' 2024 1099-MISC forms".  It doesn't state anything about the 1099-NECs or about the state forms.  Again, in QB it shows accepted under all.  When filing, I printed the page stating that I've met the requirements in these states, which were the states that needed filing.  I guess I just thought I would get something from the State.  Thanks!
