RE: 1099-NEC preparation: How do I change the "Current Year" from 2024 to 2025?

QuickBooks Online (QBO) automatically adjust the year based on the IRS filing deadline once you prepare 1099. At the same time it is designed to handle 1099 filing for payments made to contractor in the prior year, Debra.

For example:

  • Filing 2024 1099-NEC forms happens by January 31, 2025.
  • Filing for 2025 cannot be done until the next calendar year (2026).

Currently, changing the current year to 2025 is unavailable. This means the system may not allow you to switch the year to 2025 manually until the tax year has ended (e.g., after December 31, 2025) because payments haven’t yet occurred (or aren’t yet reportable).

If you’re looking to work on future 1099-NEC filings for 2025, you'll have to make sure to prepare vendor details and payment mapping accurately to make the filing process seamless when the 2025 tax year ends.

For more information when filing 1099's, check out this article for reference: Create and File 1099s.

If you have additional concerns about preparing for the 2025 tax year or require assistance with anything else, please don't hesitate to let us know. We're always around ready to assist you further.

This is ridiculous.

I run a seasonal business, and I don't pay anyone after Dec 1st.  But I have to stick around the office for a month in order to run reports like this.  I should be able to wrap all of this up the first week in December and be out of the office.
