From what I understand right now is that it is unable to delete or change tax agency names. As I add it wrongly in quickbooks I now have a tax agency (name) which is unusable for my invoices, which also adds an extra line to my accounts I do not get why this cannot be fixed or why Quickbook users are not able to delete this tax agency.
Pleased to see you here in the Community, @Wequips.
I'm here to share information about deleting tax agency in QuickBooks Online (QBO).
Are you referring to the Sales Tax Agency in QBO? If so, currently, QBO doesn't have the option to delete a Tax Agency. However, you can deactivate it, and I'm happy to show you how:
1. Go to Taxes menu on the left pane.
2. In the Sales Tax Center, go to the Related Tasks section and select Add/edit tax rates and agencies.
3. Choose a tax agency name then select Deactivate.
4. Select Continue on the dialog box.
If you don't see the settings above, you may be using the Auto Sales Tax feature. But good news! Here's how to make a tax agency inactive if you're using Auto Sales Tax:
1. Go back to Sales Tax Center, then click Edit sales tax setting.
2. Go to the Action column and from the Edit drop-down, select Make inactive.
3. On the window that pops up, select the Make Inactive button.
You can refer to this article for more information (scroll down to Make a tax agency active/inactive): https://community.intuit.com/articles/1567657.
That's it. If you're referring to something else, please let me know. I'm always here to help you out. Wishing you continued success!
Thank you for your reaction, though, I still don't get why Intuit does not make it possible to 'delete' a tax agancy instead of making inactive. Because by only making it inactive it still appears in Quickbooks and I feel that a lot of other users have the same issue. It is just very inconvenient.
It's nice to have you in the Community again. I can provide clarification on deleting tax agencies.
As my friend Fritz referenced, currently there isn't an option to delete a tax rate or agency. The option of making it inactive is designed to remove the sales tax from the QuickBooks Online interface if a user no longer needs it or if it was set up accidentally.
If there's a particular sales tax rate used for your invoices, you may wish to consider setting up a default rate. This may help to streamline creating invoices for your customers. Here's how:
I've included a brief video as a demonstration of this:
The following links contain additional information on setting up a default sales tax rate: Default Customer Sales Tax Rate in QuickBooks Online. If you don't see these settings then you may be using the Auto Sales Tax feature, and I'm including an article with further details on this system: Set Up and Use Automated Sales Tax.
I can see how the ability to delete a sales tax rate or agency could be helpful to you and your business and encourage you to submit feedback, which is sent to the Product Development Team when considering new options and features to be included in updates. QuickBooks Online is a program that's constantly evolving based largely on feedback provided by users, like yourself. You can submit this request from within QuickBooks Online by selecting the Gear icon and clicking Feedback. I'm going to submit this feedback on my side as well.
I hope that this response finds you with a smile. Please know that I'm only a post away if I can be of additional assistance. Wishing you a wonderful rest of your week.
I do not have the option 'related tasks' and so cannot change the name here. I have made the tax rates inactive and re-entered 1 and still on the invoice that I have created it lists the Tax Agency (incorrectly) that I originally used. Can I delete the Tax Agency name so it does not appear on the invoice?
