I'll walk you through recording the tax payment again, accounts427.

Automated Sales Tax Center only shows a year of returns that's why you can only see April 2020 as the oldest date. You can look into the Overdue section of the list of Sales Tax return and further check the tax period. From there, you can record the tax payment.

Aside from that, you can view all of your previous tax entries, you can pull up the Sales tax liability report. Let me show you how:

  1. Go to the Taxes menu and click Sales tax.
  2. At the upper-right, click Reports.
  3. Select Tax Liability Report.
  4. Set the Report period as to when you started setting up your sales taxes.
  5. Click Run report to refresh.

I'll be adding articles that will guide you in handling your sales tax returns:

Feel free to leave a reply if there's anything else that you need help with. Take care!

Hi there, accounts427.

I'd like to help and share what I know about sales tax in QuickBooks.

Sales taxes are calculated based on your taxable sales transactions. With this, we’re unable to delete the amounts, unless the transactions are edited or deleted. Though, you can run the Audit Log to check for those entries that were changed during that period.

Here's how:

  1. Click on the Gear icon.
  2. Under Tools, select Audit log.
  3. Click on Filter and select the dates.

However, if you mean the sales tax payments were deleted, you can easily locate and record them again by accessing the sales tax center. You can use this article for reference: Manage sales tax payments in QuickBooks Online.

As for the sales tax returns for Q4 2019, I suggest contacting the state to see if they can provide a copy of the return.

I'm also adding this link for more information about the new sales tax center: Sales tax in QuickBooks Online.

Let me know if you have follow-up questions regarding sales tax. I'll be here to help. Have a great day!

Hi,

I can find the sales tax payment adjustment entry deleted in Audit log. Can that be restored? It is not the actually bank payment done. Its the payment recorded under taxes tab, against which actual payment made should have been matched in Banking tab.

Thanks for actively responding, @accounts427. As an additional insight, we're unable to restore deleted transactions.

You can follow the suggestion of my peer @Archie_B to use all the information from the audit log. The, re-enter them manually in the sales tax center.

Once done, you can match it with the downloaded bank transaction

Feel free to message again should you have other questions. We're always delighted to assist.

@katherinejoyceO Can you please let me know the procedure to re-enter the deleted entry in sales tax centre. I'm unable to do that as well.

Glad to see you in the Community again, accounts427.

I can help you re-enter the deleted sales tax payment. Here are the steps you can follow to keep you going.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Taxes menu.
  2. From the sales tax Owed list, select and highlight the tax agency you're recording the payment for.
  3. Select Record payment.
  4. From the Bank Account dropdown, select the account you're making the payment from.
  5. Choose the payment date and tax ending tax period ending dates from the dropdowns.
  6. Provide the tax payment amount in the Tax Payment field.
  7. Once ready, select Record Tax Payment.

I'll be including this link about how to set up and use automated sales tax in QuickBooks Online that you can use in the future.

I'm just a comment away if you need clarifications. Take care!

@AbegailS_ I'm unable to view the sales tax owed list for the period Jan 2020 to March 2020 and for previous quarters. Only taxes payable from April 2020 is appearing in the sales tax centre. What could be the reason ? if i need to view all my previous tax set off entries how to view that in Sales tax centre?
