I understand it's confusing seeing deleted payments still being deducted from your balance, @air2day. I've got information here to help you clear things up.

Deleting a payroll tax payment in the Payroll Tax History does not automatically remove it from the register in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

This is because tax payments are recorded in the register under  Chart of Accounts, typically in a checking or another payment account is considered as a separate transaction that is not always directly link to the Payroll Tax History.

To remove the payment ultimately, delete it within the register section. Here's how:

  1. In your register, where the payments are reflected, click it.
  2. Choose Edit.
    Payment tax.png
  3. Then, in the upper right corner, choose Delete payment.
  4. Tap Yes, delete to confirm.

However, if the total of the register was unchanged and the amount still deducted from your balance, log out of your account and close the browser, then re-login to apply the changes you made. This will also refresh your QuickBooks and remove previous activities.

An accurate balance of your records, especially in tax payments, is essential for historical tax reporting. Let me know if you need additional assistance by leaving a comment below.

Good morning. Thank you for responding to my questions.  The suggestion did not help but will save for later.

The issue is that it won't let me delete it. I get a RED comment saying.Looks like we've hit a little snag. How about you try again in some time?

It is simply sitting in the register .

Thank you for providing detailed information, Landsite.

The error you've encountered when attempting to delete a transactions is often due to browser instability or data overload. To resolve this issue, let's follow some troubleshooting steps to see if it's browser-related:

  1. Refresh the current page (Use Ctrl + R or Command + R)
  2. Sign out of your QBO account then sign back in.
  3. Try using a different browser.
  4. Use a private or incognito window:
    • Google Chrome: Ctrl + Shift + N
    • Mozilla Firefox: Ctrl + Shift + P
    • Microsoft Edge: Ctrl + Shift + N
    • Safari: Command + Shift + N

Once done, you'll want to sign back into your account and see if you can delete the transaction as expected.

If the issue persists, I recommend reaching out to our Live Support team. They have the tools needed to securely access your account and thoroughly investigate this unusual behavior.
