I understand the urgency of this matter, and upon checking here on our system, the option is still unavailable. Know that this isn't the experience we'd want you to have and that we want to help you resolve this. I recommend sending a feature suggestion to our Product Development Team. They'll evaluate your recommendation and then consider it for future program updates. I'll write down the steps:

  1. Access your QuickBooks Online company.
  2. On the top right-corner, click the Gear icon.
  3. Select Feedback and then enter your comments or product suggestions.
  4. Once ready, click Next to submit feedback.

Additionally, here's an article to ensure your data stay accurate inside the program: Run reports in QuickBooks Online.

Location and Location of Sale

I'm buying new business and planning to use Quickbooks.  Am I understanding correctly that QB cannot calculate sales tax correctly for services provided outside of a primary business address?  We do work across 2 states and about 50 tax jurisdictions.  I'm expecting for QB to calculate accurate sales tax based on the location that the work is completed. Is this software not able to handle that?

Location and Location of Sale

I understand that this is an exciting time, and choosing the right tools, like QuickBooks, can significantly impact your business operations, @mbirk95.

The sales tax in QBO is calculated automatically, based on your customer's tax-exempt status, where you sell or ship, and what you sell. For more information. If you need more details, you can check out this article: Learn how QuickBooks Online calculates sales tax.

In the meantime, we can create custom rates based on different locations, ensuring that the software calculates sales tax based on the specific place where the work is completed. This feature is particularly beneficial for businesses like yours, which operate across two states and approximately 50 tax jurisdictions.

Here's how:

  1. Navigate to Taxes, then Sales tax (Take me there).
  2. Choose Sales tax settings.
  3. In the Custom rates section, click Add rate.
  4. Select Single or Combined.
  5. Enter the Name of the custom rate.
  6. Choose the Agency you file payments to. If adding a combined rate, select the agency for each rate you need to group as one custom rate.
  7. Enter the Rate, then Save.

Finally, you can run the Sales Tax Liability report to view your sales tax info anytime. This makes sure everything is accurate before you file your return to your tax agency.

If you have any further questions or need assistance with anything else related to QuickBooks or your new business, feel free to ask. I'm here to support you on your journey to success.

Location and Location of Sale

So am I reading this correct - there is no way to remove the "location of sale" box on an invoice?

How does it know where to populate from?

Location and Location of Sale

Hello there. Thanks for joining the thread.

Indeed, you're correct. The option to remove the Location of Sales field from invoices is currently unavailable within QuickBooks Online (QBO). The information that appears in this field comes from the company address configured in Account and Settings.

I understand the value of having the flexibility to remove this field in QuickBooks. While this particular option isn't present, I recommend sending feedback requests to our development team. This way, they can review your suggestions and help improve your experience in QuickBooks. Here's how:

  1. Go to the Gear icon at the top.
  2. Select Feedback.
  3. Type in your feedback and suggestions.
  4. Click Next to submit them.

Furthermore, I'd suggest visiting our Customer Feedback page to stay updated on the latest news related to QBO.

Additionally, I've included a link that offers efficient guidance on managing your account: Learn about QuickBooks Online with how-to videos.

You can always add a reply to this thread if you have any further inquiries about QuickBooks Online. I stand ready to provide assistance. Stay safe!

Location and Location of Sale

The way I fixed this is I added a sales tax rate for each city. Then I added a combined sales tax rate for the state plus the city.  I then edited the customer to be taxed on shipping address.  This worked for me. Now I can see the rates in my report and the customer is taxed correctly. I cannot believe QB support cannot explain this to people.  I spent 15 minutes figuring this out and I barely know QB.  Do better, QB!
