My business is primarily online and my vehicle is only for personal use, so I do not claim my vehicle expenses for my business. But when I try to export my QB info into Turbotax, it won't allow me to do it until I set up vehicle information. Is there a way to bypass vehicle info, or should I still set up the car and just claim zero miles? Thanks.

Hi, RoyalST23,

Currently, you're unable to bypass in setting up the vehicle information in QuickBooks Self Employed. Let me provide you a few information about this.

QuickBooks Self Employed (QBSE) is designed to use a vehicle as part of business purposes. I suggest reaching out to your accountant if you don't want to claim your vehicle expenses for your business.

Here's an article for more information about vehicle deductions: About Auto, Car, or Vehicle Deductions.

For future reference, you can use QBSE to track the actual cost of gas: Schedule C Car And Truck.

Fill me in if you need further assistance. I'll always be right here to help.

I have added my vehicle and my mileage along, but when I try to export to Turbo tax - it is telling me "You can only deduct vehicle expenses and mileage if you own or lease a vehicle. To continue, either add your vehicle info or recategorize your vehicle expenses"

Someone please help before I throw my laptop out the window. I've already recategorized some vehicle expenses. I can't add another vehicle. UGGG!!!

Hello @yournewperch,

Let me help share how you can export your tax return from QuickBooks Self-Employed to TurboTax.

Normally, the following items below are the only transactions you need to make sure that are categorized correctly to avoid any issues with the export:

  • Vehicle Expenses
  • Home Office Expenses
  • Healthcare Expenses
  • Business Assets
  • Tax Payments

The items above are your transactions included in your Schedule C categories in preparation for your tax return. You can read these articles to learn more:

However, if you're still unable to get rid of the message prompt, I'd recommend contacting our Customer Care Support. With their tools, one of our specialists can pull up the account on file and guide you on how to rid of the message prompt in question. To do so:

  1. Go to Help.
  2. Select Contact Us.
  3. Enter Unable to export to TurboTax in the What can we help you with? field.
  4. Click Continue.
  5. Choose a channel where you wish to connect with our specialists.

Additionally, I've got you this helpful article for guidance in preparation for the 2020 tax season: QuickBooks Self-Employed annual tax guide.

If there's anything else that I can help you with, please let me know by leaving any comments below. I'll be here to lend a hand.
