Sales tax by location not working since they made me change to new format.

They fixed it!!!! It's working like it did before new form lost our sale tax at location.  It popped up this morning as I started my first invoice!  It's in a different spot then it was before but its back!

Thanks!

Honestly, QBO is the absolute worst. We have been through TWO sales tax audits and QBO got us into HOT WATER both times due to their ineptitude and inability to have software that works properly. Living nightmare and they take NO responsibility. Been looking at Xero from some time now because Inuit is just a joke.

You CANNOT trust QBO. I am in Texas, have had not one but TWO sales tax audits and because of QBO and the inaccuracies and fallacies of their software, the state took me to the cleaners. And, I have trouble to this day - looking into Xero and other options because QBO is a joke.

I'm having this same issue.  Sales tax will not calculate.   It will not let me add sales tax manually either.

Hi there, CandaceQM. I know a couple of troubleshooting steps to help you calculate your sales tax and get your work done in no time.

Before we proceed with the troubleshooting, make sure the item is marked as taxable and that the tax setup, including the start date and invoice date, is correct for accurate calculation.

To review them, follow the steps below:

  1. Go to the Sales menu.
  2. Select Products and services.
  3. Review the item and ensure a checkmark in the Taxable column.
  4. If the column is blank, click Edit.
  5. In the Sales tax column, click Edit sales tax and choose Taxable.
  6. Review the necessary details.
  7. Click Save and close.

However, if they're correctly set up, I recommend accessing your account using a private window. This way, we can determine whether this is a browser cache-related issue.

Here are the keyboard shortcuts:

  • Safari: Command + Shift + N
  • Google Chrome: CTRL + Shift + N
  • Mozilla Firefox or Microsoft Edge: CTRL + Shift + N

If you can calculate your sales tax, clear the browser's cache. Doing so deletes all the data from your browser and optimizes its performance. You may also use other supported browsers as an alternative.

Additionally, I'll be sharing these resources that will guide you in managing your sales reports and filing tax returns in QuickBooks:

Sales tax by location not working since they made me change to new format.

Hi there, MrsPeltier.

Thanks for joining this thread. I want to make sure the Sales Tax by Location is working correctly in QuickBooks Online.

Since the troubleshooting steps mentioned above didn't do the trick, I recommend reaching out to a member of the QuickBooks Online Support Team. Agents have specialized tools, like the ability to share your screen, to take a closer look at what's causing this issue. They'll also be able to get the problem escalated for you if need be as well. Here's how to get in touch with the team:

1. Click the Help (?) button.
2. Select either tab to get started:
  - Assistant: Get quick, personalized answers. Select a suggested option, or type a question or topic you need help with. If you decide you need further help, you can still Talk to a human.
  - Search: Search the QuickBooks Online knowledge base directly, or select Contact Us and choose a way to connect with us:
    a. Start a chat with a support expert.
    b. Get a callback from the next available expert.

The following article provides these steps if you ever need them again in the future: QuickBooks Online Support

Please feel free to reach back out if you have any other questions. I'll be here to help in any way that I can.

Has there been any update with this issue? We have 800+ invoices a month that we post via third party software. This isn't sustainable for our business to have to go into every invoice and change the tax settings. I have spoken to over a dozen QB reps between the online chat and the live experts with zero resolution. Please help.

It started working for me about a month or so ago.  Do you have calculate sales tax by location selected for each customer, when you set up the customer info page?

Yes, I do have that turned on. It's still calculating tax that is tied to my business address.
