Sales tax changes between estimate and invoice

I provide services and sell products. When I set up my estimates, I choose the products as taxable (sales tax) and do not choose the services and the tax calculates correctly. However, when I try to change use the estimate to an invoice, QBs applies sales tax to everything. Is there a way to avoid having to change this every time?

Re: Sales tax changes between estimate and invoice

Hello kescpa,

Let's check the item's setting to verify the item won't get its tax calculated and tracked. I'll walk you through how.

  1. Click Gear, then Products and Services.
  2. Locate the service item, then click Edit.
  3. Make sure to un-tick the Is taxable box.
  4. Click Save and close.

Once verified, go back to your estimate and convert it to invoice again.

If you've already created the invoice, you'll want to delete and recreate again.

Feel free to read this handy article for details: Set up and use estimates and quotes.

I've also added this article in case you need future help: Import custom form styles for invoices or estimates.

Get back to me anytime if you have additional questions. I'd be sure to reply as soon as possible.

Thank you!  That worked.  I had missed those boxes in the set up.
