Sales Tax, do you pay other agencies

Hello there, @kateseren. Thanks for getting back to us.

I got your point on how important to go back the process and set up the correct information of your sales tax.

Since you've mentioned that you're still early in the set up process, you have an option to start over if your QuickBooks Online data is less than 60 days.

Note: The system deletes all data entered into the company, and you're unable to restore them.

Here's how:

  1. Log in to your QuickBooks Online account.
  2. Change the URL to include /purgecompany.
  3. Example: URL shows https://...qbo.intuit.com/app/homepage, change to: https://...qbo.intuit.com/app/purgecompany.
  4. The next screen will provide a summary of the items to be deleted.
  5. Type the word “YES” once the data gets deleted, then click OK.
  6. Click Wipe Data once your selections are complete.
  7. Once the deletion is complete, you will be rerouted to your home page.

However, if it's more than 60 days old, you need to cancel your account and start a new subscription. This will let go back to the process of setting up Sales Tax in QuickBooks Online.

To cancel your account:

  1. Go to Gear icon and select Account and Settings under Your Company.
  2. Select the Billing and subscription tab.
  3. In the QuickBooks section, select Cancel.
  4. Follow the steps to cancel your account. If you use payroll, you should cancel your payroll account too.

To start a new account:

  1. Go to Quickooks Plan.
  2. Fill up the User ID and password.
  3. You can use the same user ID and a password you previously had. If you activated payroll in the account, this is the best option for you.

You'll want to check this article for additional information: Apply sales tax rates to transactions and sales forms.

Let me know if you have follow-up questions as you go along with the process. I'll help you more. Take care and stay safe!

Sales Tax, do you pay other agencies

Hi, kateserenitysavage.

The option to undo the response on the Do you pay other tax agencies? page is unavailable. Through, there's nothing to worry about it.

If you accidentally add an agency, you can deactivate it. I've added these articles for detailed information about setting up sales tax and how to deactivate an agency:

Sales Tax, do you pay other agencies

Hi Adrian. That's bad news. I have to find a way to change that setting. It's causing problems on my invoices. I've done the inactive, etc. loop and nothing works. I am still early in the set up process. Can I have my whole account reset to have another chance to enter No in that section?

Sales Tax, do you pay other agencies

The problem is that I do need to pay the CDTFA, which is already added, so removing it does not solve the problem. The problem is specifically that since I'm in Los Angeles I need to collect sales tax on all sales and pay them to the CDTFA, which is what the correct answer to the "Do you pay other agencies", NO, would do. Since I mistakenly entered Yes, it's trying to calculate sales tax for the customer's location, outside California and set up taxes payable to those states.

I tried both of those options and neither one has actually worked. The purge company brought me to an error page not available and cancelling the account isn't working because I'm on a monthly subscription.

Ah, I talked with tech support. I had to upgrade to an Essentials account to do the purge. It did work just as you described. I upgraded and then downgraded after the purge. So your answer was right for Essentials accounts and up. Thanks!
