Sales Tax in QuickBooks Online

What is the best option for a client who uses a Third Party software to track sales and payments, but then make entries in QBO to enter, pay, and manage sales tax?

Sales Tax in QuickBooks Online

Thanks for joining the Community, @Matt Shirk.

I can help provide some information about using a third party program in tracking sales and payments that will sync into QuickBooks Online as well.

If your client is using a third party app that works with QuickBooks Online then yes, you can automatically import the transactions from that application into QBO by integration. To check if this is compatible, you can refer to this link: How do I find apps to connect to my QuickBooks Online?

If you can find the third-party app on the available list, you can contact them for help on how to integrate the two programs.

However, if the third party program is not on the list of compatible apps, then I'd suggest creating the sales tax entries manually into QuickBooks. Let me route you to this article for the two options on how to manually enter sales tax amount: https://quickbooks.intuit.com/community/Income-and-expenses/Enter-sales-tax-amount-manually/m-p/1857....

That should do it. As always you can contact our Online Care Support if you want someone to assist you in going through the steps.

You can also check out this link for more information about managing sales tax in QuickBooks: Sales tax in QuickBooks Online.

Please let me know if you have other questions about managing sales tax. I'm here to help.

That link is pretty much what I had found out too.  However, I think my client would like a way to enter the information and then pay via the Sales Tax Center, but that doesn't seem to be an option.

Thanks

Sales Tax in QuickBooks Online

Greetings Matt Shirk,

I'll chime in this thread to assist you in paying the sales tax in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

From the information you've provided, it sounds like your client is using a third-party software to track sales and payments and they want to manually enter and electronically pay the sales tax in QBO.

If this is the case, there is a feature to electronically pay and file tax liability and returns directly in the QBO account. However, the sales transactions should be manually entered to be able to use this feature.

The detailed steps can be found in these articles:

If your client entered the sales information and wants to manually pay it in QBO, they can do so by writing a check. Just click the Plus sign icon at the top, then choose Check.

Please feel free to let me know if your situation doesn't match what is being discussed above. I'll be around to help you anytime.
