Sales tax summary report

Any ideas on how I can get a sales tax report that lists the total sales, taxable sales and the tax collected? I had a detail report  (by customer)with those columns but it has become too big to run each month so I have to run multiple rate rages to get the report to load. I don't need it by customer as it is too voluminous.

Thank you for getting back to us, @bgoon.

I'd be glad to clarify things out about sales tax summary report.

To get the sales tax report that shows the details you want to see, you'll need to open the Sales Tax Liability Report. Let me guide you how.

  1. Go to Reports.
  2. Search for Sales Tax Liability Report.
  3. From there, you can drill down the taxable amount to show the transactions.
  4. Then, you can customize the report to show the details you want to see.

Also, you can save the report by clicking "Save customization" for future use.

I followed your instructions but it only shows me the taxable sales. I need the total sales too so I can report to the state the exempt sales. Is there a way to unfilter it to show all sales? It is still a large report as it lists each sales for the month but at least it doesn't list all of the items like the other report. If you can tell me how to get total sales that would be great. A report like desktop with the columns of "Total Sales" "Non-taxable Sales" "Taxable Sales" and "Tax collected" would be ideal.

It's hard to believe, in QBO, they still don't have this basic sales tax report we need.

I used to do bookkeeping for another company. Their version of QB had this report. I can't find anything to do with Sales Tax in my pulldowns.  Frustrating.

I'm struggling with this too. I used to drill into the total on the "Sales tax revenue summary' to use the report called 'Sales tax revenue Quickzoom' and from there I could see ALL of our sales and also add the following fields: Item, item description, ship to address 1 and 2, and ship to state. I agree with the other consumers that we need to see the detail of non-taxable sales so we can use the proper deductions. Right now, in QBO, I have to download and merge two reports to get all the data I need. Very frustrating and time consuming :( The feedback suggestion link is closed which is why I am posting here.

Good day @mmarques13,

Allow me to join in this conversation and share my thoughts on the sales tax report you're looking for.

The closest report that I can think of that meets what you need is the Sales by Product/Service Detail. You can customize this report and it will provide you most of what you said above.

Here's how:

  1. Run the Sales by Product/Service Detail report.
  2. Select the correct date range by changing the Report period drop-down menu.
  3. Click the small Gear icon to add more columns, like Taxable and Tax Amount.
  4. Click Save customization for easy access in the future.

As always, we appreciate being given the chance to improve more on our product. I can see how a specific report you described will be quite handy. We've taken note of this report you've suggested and we thank you for sharing it.

For more details about customizing your reports, take a look at this article: How to customize reports. It lists the steps on how to create, save, share, and access a customized report.

I'm glad to extend a helping hand whenever it's needed. Please feel free to leave a comment below if you have other questions or clarifications.

When they introduced this new Automated Sales Tax feature, you would think, they will also add at least a few badly needed new sales tax reports.

They did nothing of that instead, they just created a big mess in QBO sales tax function.
