Tax box does not populate when entering vendor bill for billable taxable item

If an item is set up as taxable, and you enter a vendor bill for that item to be marked up and resold to a taxable customer, why doesn't the Tax box on the item line auto populate?

I've got some info to share about the Tax column in QuickBooks Online (QBO), @PJBooks, and @pamthamp.

The Tax column will only auto-populate once you create sales forms like invoices, estimates, and sales receipts. This is the reason why it won't auto-checked when you make a bill even if both the item and customer were set to taxable. If you wish to make the item taxable, you can manually check the Tax column.

For more insights on how sales tax works in QBO, see this resource: Sales Tax.

You'll want to pull up the Sales Tax Liability report to get a view of all your taxable and non-taxable sales, plus the total sales tax you collected from customers. For more details, please check out this article: Run Sales Tax Liability report.

Also, you may want to know more on how to file your sales tax return and record their payments so you stay compliant.

I'm always around to help if you have more questions. Have a nice day.
