A little more information. I have looked at many many posts. Have tried each option mentioned that I found to switch back to manual sales tax. I am using a MAC with Safari. Also tried Chrome. Also tried private mode. I do not get the "temporarily switch back to manual sales tax" option no matter what I have tried. Please help me get back to the manual sales tax option which worked fine. Currently, switching back to manual sales tax is unavailable in QuickBooks.
All our sales tax is already automated. The advantage of the Automated Sales Tax is, the system will automatically select a tax rate for you. As long as your Sales Tax Center is set up.
I'll send feedback about this to our product developers. I can see how useful it is and it'll save you time as well.

I appreciate you for sharing your thoughts about the automated Sales Tax feature in QuickBooks.
Let me guide you on where you can find the Add an adjustment option in the Taxes menu so you'll be able to record your credit.
Once done, the credit will show on the Review your sales tax window where you need to save the updated amount of your tax.
I've attached screenshots below for your reference.
If you wish to run reports for your sales tax liabilities, you can pull up the Sales Tax Liability report. This way, you'll be able to get a detailed look at the taxes you owe and why you owe them. First, I read how to do that and tried several times - there is NO ADD AN ADJUSTMENT button - period. The tax report I am looking to change is my January Sales Tax payment made earlier this month. I'll try to include a screenshot here so you can see there is no option to adjust. It wouldn't paste but I was able to add the file. Can this only be done when filing a report? Can we not change a report once it is done? Because I want to adjust a payment already made. Any help would be appreciated. Marie
Hello again. I played around with this a little more. Went to a prior period before using the new tax method. When I pull up prior taxes - it shows that they are still due which is incorrect, as they were paid before the update. BUT - it has the button "make an adjustment". So that to me makes it obvious you have to make the adjustment prior to completing your return. Knowing this, hopefully Feb taxes will go okay. If I have any issues I will be back in touch.

The ability to add an adjustment is only available prior to filing a return. If you didn't E-File the return using QuickBooks Online, you can delete and re-record the payment along with the adjustment. Check it out:
From there, you can re-create the payment and add the adjustment.

You can only use Turn off Sales Tax option if you haven't run any transactions with sales tax. Otherwise, you'll be prompt that cannot turn off sales tax.
If you don't want your transactions to calculate sales tax, we can go back to it and remove the check mark on the TAX box or column.
If you don't want to use the Automated Sales Tax, I'd recommend reaching out to our Customer Care Team. They can pull up your account and can provide additional troubleshooting steps to correct this.
You can accountant can also add advice about sales tax.
