TurboTax Business QuickBooks Integration

Hi,

I have been importing QuickBooks desktop data into TurboTax business without issue, then suddenly this feature doesn't work anymore. And I get a message saying that data cannot be imported and say to enter a password in a window or open the data base in QuickBooks.

I remember when things were working that a pop up window was showing asking a password but that window does not open anymore.

Any suggestion? I tried calling support but it sucks. I don't get to talk to a agent.

Thanks in advance

Hello, Minxola.

Have you recently changed your QuickBooks Desktop version or your TurboTax business software? Any information can help me find the best solution to import your QuickBooks Desktop data successfully.

In the meantime, let's ensure your QuickBooks Desktop is updated to the most recent release. This guarantees you have the latest feature and fixes. I'll show you how.

  1. Go to the Help menu and select Update QuickBooks Desktop.
  2. Click the Update New tab.
  3. Put a checkmark on the box beside Reset Update.
  4. Hit Get Updates.

Once done, you can close QuickBooks and restart your computer.

Also, please note the following requirements before proceeding with the import process:

  • QuickBooks should be installed on the same local drive as TurboTax (not networked) and needs to be registered.
  • You'll need QuickBooks Administrator access.
  • The QuickBooks company file (.qbw filename extension) must be in single-user mode and should've been opened at least once on the computer you're using to import (no need to leave it open during the import).
  • Be sure to update your QuickBooks data before importing, so that your books match your tax return.
  • Make sure you've finished entering the tax year's financial info in QuickBooks, and that you've assigned tax lines to your accounts.
  • During the import, leave QuickBooks is running and keep your QuickBooks data file open.

After that, follow the steps below to import your TurboTax data into QBDT:

  1. Open your tax return in TurboTax.
  2. From the TurboTax File menu, select Import, then click From Accounting Software.
  3. Select QuickBooks and click Continue.
  4.  Follow the onscreen instructions.

You can check out these articles on how to import QuickBooks into TurboTax:

Feel free to add any details below if you need further assistance importing your data. We'll keep an eye on your response. Take care.

I confirm that the the software are updated and that all requirements are met.

I have imported data a couple of time without issues but now it doesn't work anymore. There was a pop up window showing up during the import and now that windows does not show up. My guess is that the problem is associated to that.

Hi Minxola!

Thanks for the reply. Let me assist you in sending your data to TurboTax Business.

Let's start by using QuickBooks Desktop's Verify and Rebuild Data tool. It can repair any issues by scanning your company file.

One possible reason why you're unable to import QuickBooks Desktop data to TurboTax Business is that you're using an unsupported version of QuickBooks. QuickBooks Desktop versions 2019-2022 are supported by TurboTax Business. You'll want to upgrade to a supported version.

Also, if this error persists, it's best to reach out to TurboTax Support so they can further help you in importing your data.

I also added this link if you need help in closing your books and more details with the year-end processes: Year-end guide for QuickBooks Desktop.

I'm just a post away if you have other concerns. Take care always!

No issue were found and yes I have QuickBooks 2021 and the latest version of TurboTax.

Again it worked fine for a couple of times.

I will try to contact TurboTax support if I manage to talk to a real person.

I have a similar problem.

I am running TurboTax 2021 Home and Business and Quick Books Desktop Pro 2018, both on the same computer.
I updated QuickBooks but TurboTax crashes every time I try to import.
Plus, QuickBooks does not have any option to export not a format TurboTax would take.

Any idea on how to address it?
Thank you

I know how this process takes time when you're unable to import your company file exported from your QuickBooks Desktop to TurboTax, @Adrian-2000. I'll share some information to help you with this.

Are you integrating your data directly between these software? If so, we’re unable to this since TurboTax Business supports QuickBooks Desktop versions 2019-2022. That said, you’ll want to consider upgrading into those versions

Otherwise, let’s review the data in your QBDT before importing it into TurboTax. You can read this article for the recommended steps: How do I import QuickBooks data into TurboTax Business?

Since you also mentioned that your TurboTax crashes, I’d suggest your reach out to TurboTax Support. They'll be able to answer all your queries related to it.

For future reference, I’ve added this article to guide you with the year-end processes: Year-end guide for QuickBooks Desktop.

Please let me know if you need further assistance when working in QuickBooks. Just leave a comment below, and I'm always right here to help you.

Thank you for the suggestion.

I have already downloaded QB 2021 but now I am waiting for it to update since the first attempt had the same result: TT 2021 crashed.

I'll come back with the end result.

The QB 2021 Updates for the Maintenance Releases never finished. I've tried at least five times.
I then disabled those and updated everything else.

Luckily that helped and I could import the data into TurboTax.

I spent a full day trying to do something that had worked for the past 10 years, and one would expect to be flawless since I bought both products from the same company.

Enough is enough. Time to look for alternatives.
For the past 3-4 years Intuit became a greedy entity which did not even offer you a solution, but they've forced you to upgrade. I considered going Online, but guess what, on this support site many people were appalled that they could not import from an Online version to TurboTax.

Thank you for your support though.
