Update Michigan Unemployment Limit (Wage Base)?

I received a "Notice of Taxable Wage Base" from the Michigan Unemployment Agency. My wage base is $9,500 for 2020. The limit for MI- Unemployment Insurance in QB Desktop Pro 2017 is set at $9,000. How do I update the limit to the correct wage base of $9,500?

Update Michigan Unemployment Limit (Wage Base)?

I appreciate you getting back to us, @Jason49855.

At this time, changing the State Unemployment Limit manually isn't available. QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) automatically enters the new wage limit once we receive updates from the Agency. This is to ensure we stay compliant with your state tax laws and regulations.

As an alternative, you can consider tracking the amount deducted for MI-Unemployment Insurance for each of your employees if they already reached the limit. Then, create a tax adjustment to correct employee's total wages. For more guidance, feel free to check out this article for the detailed steps and information: Entering wage base and tax adjustment to correct employee's quarter (QTD) or year to date (YTD) tota....

Then, for paying and filing the MI-Unemployment Insurance, you can go to the States website and process it from there.

Update Michigan Unemployment Limit (Wage Base)?

Hello there, @Jason49855.

QuickBooks Desktop complies with your state policy. To update your limit, you'll need to have the latest tax table version. Let me walk you through how.

  1. Go to Employees, then Get Payroll Updates.
  2. Select the radio-button next to Download entire payroll update.
  3. Click Update.

Once done, go back to your payroll settings to see the new limit. Here's how:

  1. Go to Lists.
  2. Choose Payroll Item List.
  3. Scroll down towards the state unemployment and check the Limit column.

I've got this awesome article you can use for your reference. Here's the link: Michigan Payroll Tax Compliance. You can also visit our page about QuickBooks Desktop Payroll for more tips and recommendations.

Stay in touch if you have other questions and concerns about payroll. We're always here to help. Thanks for coming in and stay safe.

Update Michigan Unemployment Limit (Wage Base)?

Thank you. We have a different situation in Michigan. Most businesses use $9000 as a wage base. Under certain circumstances, the state assigns a wage has of $9500. I don't think that the payroll update has any way of knowing that ours is $9500 so it has to be changed manually.

All updates have been completed.

Thank you for the response. It's not the answer that I was hoping for but it is the answer. I would submit this as a feature request. I'm sure that there are a lot of Michigan users that will be in this situation.
