Vendor doesn't have SSN

Hello,

Towards the end of last year, I had so much work that I needed to hire more workers as fast as I could because we had to finish a project urgently, so one of the workers didn't fill out their W9 form and now there is no way that I can reach him in order to get his SSN and Address.

What could I do in this case? the vendor is not eligible for 1099 form because of the missing info.

Will making him inactive solve the problem?

Re: Vendor doesn't have SSN

Hi there, @Yehosef.

Thank you for taking the time posting in the Community. I'd be happy to help share some information about filing the 1099 form.

You're correct. An EIN or an SSN is required when you file the 1099 forms of your contractors. QuickBooks is designed to detect missing information such as the EIN or SSN to make sure you comply with the requisite details of the tax agencies.

To ensure that you're able to send the 1099 forms for other vendors, you can just exclude that contractor using the 1099 Wizard.

Here's how:

  1. From the Vendors menu, select  Print/E-file 1099s.
  2. Select 1099 Wizard.
  3. Click the Get Started button.
  4. In the Select your 1099 vendors window, find the vendor's name.
  5. Remove the check on the box to unselect the vendor.
  6. Click Continue to file your 1099- MISC forms.

That should allow you to prepare and file the forms excluding that vendor.

For additional reference, you can also check the articles below:

If you need to reach out for more help, feel free to reach out to our Phone Support. They can run the screen sharing tool to guide you through the steps.

Here's how you can reach them:

  1. Go to http://payroll.intuit.com/support/contact/.
  2. At the top right, select your Payroll Subscription type.
  3. Click Payroll.
  4. Click on the View Contact Info button to get their contact number.

That should point you in the right direction today.

I'm just a post away if you have any other questions about filing the 1099 forms. I'll be happy to help you out.  Wishing you and your business continued success.

Re: Vendor doesn't have SSN

Hello there, sohohound.

Thanks for joining this thread. I'm here to help provide some additional information about 1099 forms.

When filling the 1099 forms, it requires the vendor's information especially the EIN or an SSN. Once you already have your vendor's information, you can follow the steps provided by my colleague MaryGraceS on how to send the 1099 forms.

Please know that you're always welcome to post if you have any other questions about 1099 forms. Have a good day ahead.
